Watch Inside Out for Handling your Customers Better

Businesses have drawn motivation from many aspects of life. Be it entertainment or politics, spirituality or games, every aspect of Human life has made a strong effect on how businesses are done. This truth finds further relevance given the fact that most of the stakeholders of any business involve human mind.

These human minds need to be handled and managed in the most humane manner which is affected by all the aspects of life. Among all the elements, movies play a definitive role in motivating and influencing human mind since it imparts a strong audio-visual impact.

Most of the businesses often take motivation from various movies. These movies are also used in motivation and leadership training. The call center business, having deep roots in the world of technology, often gets influenced by movies such as Social Networking or The Wolf of the Wall Street. But can a call center business also get motivated by a Disney Pixar animation movie? Well, people do get motivated by the simplest things in life. But some special movies such as the Disney Pixar movie which released in 2015 called Inside Out has special effects on how human beings are motivated? This movie also answers the basic question about how businesses can manage situations.

This movie, Inside Out, is the story of a young girl called Riley. Riley, in a very simplistic manner, personifies the five most important human emotions – Joyfulness, Sadness, Anger, Disgust, and Fear. This girl is affected by one or more of these emotions at a time, and these emotions guide the way she behaves in a particular situation or time. Though this is a commonly known fact by all of us, human mind is complex, and it often overlooks these common simple things. Once the human mind starts assimilating these feelings, it is easier to handle the complex human minds.

Interestingly, out of five emotions mentioned above, four are negative emotions. These four prominent human emotions are on display most of the time. Call centers are characterized by the customer service agent or experts who need to handle innumerable customers entire day for two purposes – either for selling products and services or for handling customer problems/grievances. In whatever circumstances, the call center executives primarily need to handle these four negative emotions and ideally convert it into the fifth positive emotion that is Joy. The ideal situation, though, is seldom realized.

Watching this movie would help the call center bosses in understanding what and how their team members are emotionally juggling regularly. This would thus give a direction to the bosses in the way they can help their employees manage such situations effectively. The call center executives or employees would further benefit regarding understanding why the customers are behaving in the said manner and how can these customers be handled and managed better. Customers can be managed precisely in two manners – giving them the required human touch or helping them digitally. While both have their pros and cons, an efficient mix of both these methods is required to help the customer reeling under the four negative emotions.
