Power Tool Dust Extractors for Construction Clean Up

Dust during and after Construction clean up is inevitable, but there are ways to contain and remove it as much as possible. During remodeling projects, Dust is abundant and hazardous. Construction produces unhealthful inhalable particles. It is appropriate to do mitigation during construction activities. There are strategies to mitigate the dust, such as power tools with dust extractors, dust barriers, and air scrubbers. In part 1 of three of this blog, we will discuss power tools with dust extractors.

Several companies make vacuum extractor power tools that suck up dust at the point of contact. A couple examples include saws that collect sawdust as it is cutting and tile cutters that capture tile debris. These tools remove nearly 90 percent of dust when generated.

However, power tools are used during 10 to 20 percent of demolition work. Even if these tools are used, there will be plenty of dust in the air during and after construction like knocking down drywall.

Not all contractors have these tools with them. The tools run upward of $6,000 to $7,000 for a set, and contractors who have them have a higher overhead as a result.

Nonetheless, dust-generating tasks should take place outside the home.
