Newsweek names Hyundai a Top Green Company

“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”

Going ‘green’ isn’t just a fad - and for better or worse, it has now become a way of life, not only for individuals, but businesses as well.

Newsweek recently unveiled their ‘2016 Green Rankings’, which ranks the 500 largest publicly-traded companies in both the US and globally, by their overall environmental performance. Hyundai Motor Company was honored to be named as one of the top ‘green’ companies, and with their contribution to the automotive world, in regards to eco-friendly cars, it’s no surprise.

Elijah Wolfson, senior editor, Newsweek said that, “In the current global business and political climate, no company can continue to ignore its environmental footprint and there’s good news: Newsweek’s 2016 Green Rankings show the world’s biggest companies are improving when it comes to energy productivity and in limiting greenhouse gas emissions.” Wolfson added, “Our hope is the rankings will propel leaders to start looking at their environmental impact, not just in terms of carbon use, but comprehensively, and make the changes necessary to sustain both business growth and environmental viability.”

Hyundai’s innovative Blue Drive is the automaker’s way of producing low-carbon and fuel-efficient cars and SUVs, making it great for the environment without sacrificing performance for the driver.

Mike O’Brien, vice president, corporate and product planning, Hyundai Motor America, said that, “This recognition from Newsweek is a testament to our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint globally.” O’Brien added, “Hyundai will continue to place importance on its eco-friendly Blue Drive® lineup in all segments. Part of this initiative is the arrival of the Hyundai Ioniq late this year, marking Hyundai’s very first car offered in three electric versions to debut in the U.S.”

Newsweek’s Green Rankings are based on eight key performance factors, which are clear and also replicable by a third party. The average of the eight scores are then used to determine a company’s overall rank.
