A letter to Lilly age 6.

Dear Lilly,

You are 6 today. If someone had asked me when you turned 5 if I could ever Love you more, I probably would have said no, because I was quite certain I loved you past the top already…but you proved me wrong, because there is not a day that I don’t love you a bit more.

I am writing this letter to you, my little Lilly, because it is your 6^th & special big girl birthday, but also, I am writing it for myself because you are growing so fast and I don’t want to forget a single thing.

Here’s what I love most about you right now:

1. That smile of yours and that glimmer in your eyes. You are always so happy. And your happiness is contagious and   rubs off on people.

2. You are our little Picasso. You live for drawing, colouring, craft projects. Your imagination is limitless! I usually find you drawing a picture on your own taking care with every great detail, shading, outlining, detail. If I let you, you would draw all day if you could!

3. The way you see the world. Your hunger for new information. At night, before bed when I am brushing your teeth, you say ‘tell me something I don’t know mumma’ and we’ll talk about any subject and you’ll listen intently captivated about months in the year or capital cities or something.

4. Your long hair. You are so pretty! But that doesn’t matter to you and this makes you even more beautiful.

7. At bath time, when I’m washing your hair, you cautiously lean back and rest your head on my hand as I lower your head; you trust that you wont go under as I rinse the shampoo. I can feel your trust and I wont ever let you go under.

8. The way you wiggle your teeny bottom when you dance. You can really dance. You have natural rhythm, which must come from your daddy. When you go into the loft and have a disco whilst daddy does his show, you tell him to put something on that you like, and he does, you flick your bottom and move to the bass.

9. Every weekend morning, we hear you wake as your door creaks open but you never rush into our room. We hear you potter about for a while and then knock on our door. You’re such a considerate little girl. Even in the excitement of a new morning you listen and wait. Patience is such a quality to have.

    You say that you have something special for me and when you ask if I’d like it, you give me the biggest kiss & hug, then float away. These gifts are the sweetest gifts you will ever give me.

11. You are the most social child no social situation fazes you. Something you must get from your daddy. You are always on the look out to make new friends, and you aren’t afraid of talking to people you don’t know. When you were a baby you told a lady that you liked her hat. You include people that get left on the sidelines & you care about how this might make them feel. We can take you to grown up places, like festivals, daddy’s things, restaurants and coffee shops. You are very much a part of our grown up lives as you are our family life. Grown ups love you being around because you are such an easy going, resilient & cool little girl. We thank you for making our lives so easy.

12. Every night when you go to bed, as I’m walking downstairs you shout to me that ‘I love you more than the biggest number in the world’ And I know that you know that this is a very Big Number because you can already count past 100.

You amaze your daddy & me more and more every day. You are no longer our waddler or our toddler, you are almost a big girl, because 6 is quite a big number you tell me. How did I ever get so lucky getting a little girl like you. You are my dreams come true, my little Lilly flower. But even though you are growing up, remember this our almost big girl, you’ll always be our baby.
