Light, My Light: Creative Programming for Treble Choir

recommended by Jen Sper and Lisa Springer, School Choral Music Specialists

Light, My Light by Scott AuCoin, SSAA with piano
This is a piece that focuses on hope and joy through the imagery of light. Rhythmic and uptempo with an exciting piano accompaniment, “Light, my light” is a rich offering for treble choirs.

Las Gaviotas (The Seagulls) by Eduardo Cota, 2-part with piano
“Las gaviotas (The seagulls)” is a happy and rhythmic song that paints the picture seen in a child’s imagination as she looks at a sea bird. The piano acts as a harmonic soloist, participating in the plot while providing vocal support.

Orion by Susan LaBarr, SSAA with piano
A lyrical and moving work that empowers singers to find their inner worth. The text by Faith Zimmer compares the constellation Orion to the strength that we can find in times of trial.

Sea Fever (from Five Sea Songs) by Daniel Brinsmead, SSA with piano
“Sea Fever” is the first of Five Sea Songs by Daniel Brinsmead. The poem speaks of a sailor being mysteriously drawn to the sea, and the composer’s delightful treatment brings all of the imagery to life. With adjustable vocal lines, this work is appropriate for a variety of ages and levels.
