Never Gonna Give You Up and More Pops for High School Choir

recommended by Jen Sper and Lisa Springer, School Choral Music Specialists

Never Gonna Give You Up arr. Roger Emerson, SATB with piano and optional rhythm
He won’t give you up. He won’t let you down. He won’t run around and desert you. He won’t make you cry. He won’t say goodbye. And he won’t tell a lie and hurt you. And now, Rick Astley’s #1 hit of the summer of 1987 can “rickroll” itself right into your pops concert… just make sure you call it something else on the program!

93 Million Miles arr. Susan LaBarr, SATB with piano
This new arrangement by Susan LaBarr is ready for the concert stage. Lush harmonies and independent part writing make this worthy of any fine choir.

Hold On to Me arr. Audrey Snyder, SATB with piano and optional rhythm
Audrey Snyder’s arrangement of this Lauren Daigle hit perfectly captures the simplicity and strength of the original. Building from a quiet statement of human frailty to a triumphant affirmation, this piece will bring encouragement to singers and audiences alike.

Weatherman arr. Roger Emerson, SATB with piano and optional rhythm
Breakout star Eddie Benjamin composed this funky, measured and uplifting plea for brighter days and put the world on notice as a result! Rarely has old-school soul sounded so fresh and modern – it perfectly sits in a choral arrangement. Irresistibly catchy!

People Get Ready arr. Kyle Pederson, SATB with piano
Immortalized by Rolling Stone as one of the greatest songs of all time, this gospel-influenced Curtis Mayfield classic has remained relevant since its release in 1965. Part of a long tradition of African American freedom songs that use train imagery, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. considered this the unofficial anthem of the Civil Rights Movement. This groovy arrangement captures the musical style with bluesy vocals and a riff-filled piano part.

Glimpse of Us arr. Mac Huff, TTBB with piano
This contemplative showcase for low voices was another 2022 summer standout hit, coming from Japanese-Australian singer/songwriter Joji. Sparse yet exceptionally affecting, this arrangement is available in two parts or four.

Sunroof arr. Alan Billingsley, SATB with piano and optional rhythm
Cracking the Top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100, this earworm from LA-based artists Nicky Youre and dazy was a contender for song of the summer of 2022. A sunny mentality, with an even catchier hook, this song never outstays it’s welcome!

Put a Little Love in Your Heart (with Love Train) arr. Greg Gilpin, SSA with piano
From the moment you hear the vocal and rhythmic opening, you know you have a winning arrangement from Greg Gilpin for your concert or show choir. Now available for SSA and TTB voices, the driving energy and pop sound create an easy to learn and performed arrangement for everyone. Add some choreography for a showstopping opening or closing number.

Flowers arr. Mark Brymer, SSA with piano and optional rhythm
Queen of the charts once again after “Wrecking Ball” in 2013, Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” has charged into the pop culture spotlight with no apologies. Featuring a funky and laid-back vibe, the lyrics are factual and affirming rather than scathing. A good-natured oasis for #1 Hit choral arrangements.
