recommended by Eric Stratton, Jazz Specialist

Alone Together by Arthur Schwartz/arr. Mike Kamuf, Grade 3.5
A great Jazz standard that really hits the mark. The chart is played around 124 BPM with lead trumpet range to written B above the staff, and solo space for tenor 1 with a sample solo provided. The development section features trombones plus the other sections as well. Vibes and flute optional parts. A first-class chart!

Game of Bones by Vince Gassi, Grade 1
“Game of Bones” by Vince Gassi is a driving jazz waltz played around 158 BPM with a haunting melody that stays with you. Includes a written tenor sax solo, fine ensemble writing, lyrical lines throughout all the while accessible and fun to play.

The S Is Silent by Kris Berg, Grade 5
Commissioned by the jazz division of the Illinois Music Education Association for the 2021 Illinois All-State Honors Jazz Band, this Kris Berg chart at the medium advanced level will be an exciting addition to any library. With feels that alternate between samba and swing, a strong melody and lots of full ensemble work, this chart makes sure that everyone gets in on the action. Solo space is provided for alto saxophone and trumpet.

Saxomania by Rich Woolworth, Grade 3
As the title implies, this swingin’ chart gives the Saxophone section a chance to be featured. Written in a 12-bar blues style, there is space for all your Sax players to play written or ad lib solos over the Bb blues. With a catchy melody and some big blow sections, this tune is sure to be a favorite of your entire band (especially the saxes!)
