President Donald Trump Threatened Government Shutdown
President Donald Trump threatened to shut down the government Sunday night if Democrats do not approvingly vote on the approximate $25 billion Border Wall which is to separate Mexico from the U.S.
“I would be willing to “shut down” government if the Democrats do not gives us the votes
for Border Security, which includes the Wall! Must get rid of the Lottery, Catch & Release etc. and finally go to system of Immigration based on MERIT! We need great people coming into our Country,” he tweeted on July 29.
Trump’s Campaign Promises
The estimated 2,000-mile wall has been at the forefront of Trump’s campaign promises, yet despite his wishes - the massive project has yet to be financially addressed.
Although Trump called for $25 billion for the wall’s construction, only $1.6 billion was allocated towards border security in the Federal spending bill that passed in March. That leaves 6 percent of the project funded, and heightens the lingering mystery as to how the government will come up with $23.4 billion.
