Put a ring on it

Tying the knot is a special and memorable experience for every happy couple, and considered to be one of life’s greatest moments. Everybody has a different perception of the perfect Proposal, whether that be a dramatic setting such as at the peak of a mountain or at your family home in front of friends and relatives. However, you have to be careful not to cross the line that separates an unforgettable romantic moment and the massive cheese-fest that will make everyone you know curl in to a ball and cringe for hours.

As far as rings go, bigger is usually better, but everyone has a diverse taste which makes it all the more difficult for men to get it spot on, which is becoming a reoccurring theme! According to a recent survey 54% of women are unsure as to whether their partner will hit the nail on the head and a whopping 23% believe that the amount spent on a ring is an indication of the commitment that you are willing to put in! However studies say that you should fork out roughly 1½ months worth of wages.

Now here are some of our favourite unique Engagement ideas…

  • The Disney Princess

Remember that cheese festival I mentioned previously? Well if your to-be bride enjoys captivating the room with her looks, is a massive Disney fan, and a sucker for fancy dress then this proposal method is the one! There’s a reason why Paris is the city of love.

  • The Sky-writer

If you have a few bucks to splash on the big question and looking for something timelessly romantic, maybe you want to find a sky-writer to doodle your question in the sky over a passionate picnic in the park. (Just make sure you haven’t got a mouthful of jam sandwich when the passing takes place!)

  • The Long term

A personal favourite… Spell out something along the lines of “Will You Marry Me” by using t-shirts that have single characters on. Over a period of time, you get photographs taken of you and your fiancée with the letters visible. Then one day, all these mysterious letters become clear, as you put together the photographs that now spell out your proposal! This isn’t only a cute and clever method; it shows you’ve been planning this over a long period!

  • The Treasure Hunt

Chances are that you’ve already read about this new popular method. The treasure hunt is quickly becoming the new “ring in the champagne glass.” Scatter clues around and construct a map – include relatable places your fiancée will recognise, pictures and questions that have meaning. Not only will they be made up by the proposal, you’ll earn some serious brownie points! (Just don’t leave the ring unattended!)

  • The Tropical Beach

Planning a trip away? This is definitely your time to shine, carve those words in the sand, carefully place the ring on the sand castle or surprise her on one of the evening strolls. Nature will provide the ideal setting and you can spend the rest of the time celebrating.

  • The Collage

Another techy technique, dig out and print your pictures together by the hundred and jumble them together to spell out the three words. It’s kept private and shows you’ve spent some time forging your engagement idea!

  • The cinema screen

Another risky public demonstration but again shows that you’ve done your planning and preparation and gone the extra mile for her.

  • The Mountain Top

If you’re both into your hiking and looking for somewhere stunning to make the move, get up early for the sunrise and hike up to the mountain peak. Jenna Bush (George’s daughter) put this technique on the books but it’s quickly climbing the ranks – excuse the pun.

  • The Bottom of the Ocean

Now this one may seem like a long shot but it’s very doable, depending on how good you are at convincing. Go down to your local aquarium and see if they are willing to set up an underwater proposal for you, surprising and  very romantic.

  • The Faker

Keep her on her toes, bring home a ring guide, ask for her finger size – make it OBVIOUS that you’re going to propose, then when she finally cottons on to you, toss the ring you’ve already bought on her finger!

  • The Milestone Movie

Much alike the collage, get your techy tips on and construct a mini movie of all the good times you have shared together and throw in a few pictures too! Send it to her, put it on the tv, make it romantic!

  • The Festival

No not Reading or Glastonbury, cultural festivals like the Hot Air Balloon festival in Turkey or Las Fallas in Valencia or a memorable date such as Christmas or something special to you both. Stunning backdrops, amazing people and the perfect engagement idea!

  • The Sporting Event

Remember that F.R.I.E.N.D.S episode where Pheoebe proposed to Mike at the baseball game? Another public-pressured proposal but if you’re both die-hard sports fans or the stadium played an important part in your relationship, this could be her perfect engagement.

  • The first date

Another iconic memory in your relationship, not-so-original but it’s always a great place to propose, tip off the waiter at your first restaurant, the park where you first kissed or where you first met (as long as it’s nowhere to dodgy).

  • The Artsy Crafty way

Another technique that recently went viral was the customised board game. Create a monopoly game with memorable stops, chance cards relating to her life and be ready for the big moment – just don’t whip out the ring every time she picks up a chance card! You could also use this engagement idea with another of her favourite board games if she doesn’t like monopoly or you haven’t got a spare 5 hours to play it.

  • The Monument

A classic, the Roman Colosseum or the Eiffel Tower like Tom & Katie, a romantic break to one of the worlds most iconic sites and an unforgettable memory that will take you back every time you see it. Need I say more?
