I’m absolutely positive that we’ve spoken about this before, but it comes up so frequently that I’m thinking about it again. We’re working with one of our telco clients on a project similar to our normal ITSM projects but using a different technology to report directly on particular network nodes and create tickets automatically.

Everything is at breakneck speed and it has been for 3 years, whereas, we’ve only been on this project for a short while

Why are we always Running at such a high pace when delivering projects? This is something that I often ask myself as I dive headlong through another working day showing up to hours of meetings followed by late nights delivering on the actions captured during the working day and not gaining that real sense of completing a task as well as it could have been done due to the constant pressure to “just deliver”.

When the idea for this blog post came to me, I wondered why the world moves so fast now? Are we always looking for instant gratification? Is this the fault of our modern society? I would ask if this was the new normal, but it’s been like that for a while. Meetings are being scheduled earlier in the morning and later in the evening. It’s often said that a task will expand to fit the time available, but it’s not that, it’s something else.

I’ve written before about the time spent thinking and planning reducing the time of the ‘delivery’ phase. It’s not that either.

So what is it? Answers on a postcard please (or one of our social media feeds to share the conversation….)
