Fourth of July Events in Houston and Dallas

Looking for a fun day out to celebrate the Land of Liberty? Texas is packed with ways to spend your Fourth of July, many of which finish with a grand display of Fireworks lighting up the sky! Here’s a sampler of the many happenings around Houston and Dallas.

Houston Area

Freedom Over Texas: Just in case you’re new to these parts, this giant Fourth of July extravaganza comes top of mind in the city of Houston. Before you watch the fireworks with the Houston skyline as a backdrop, celebrate with the throngs of fellow Americans while taking in live music at one of the many stages. The headliner this year is Hunter Hayes. Admission is $10 at the gate.

Star-Spangled Salute: Get inspired by the patriotic music delivered in the rich sound of the Houston Symphony at Miller Outdoor Theater — finished off by a heart-rousing performance of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture and a fireworks display. Tickets are free, but be sure you snag some in advance.

I Love America: Head over to College Station for all-day free admission to the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum. Then, stick around for the Kids’ Zone for a free performance by the Patriotic Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra finished off with a fireworks display.

Kidependence Day: “Meet” Founding Fathers George Washington and Benjamin Franklin and march along to the High Steppers Brass Brand, followed by a spectacular Patriotic Splash in the Concrete Jungle of The Children’s Museum of Houston.

Play in the Snow: Have you ever made a snow angel on the Fourth of July? Neither have we. But this year, the Green at Memorial City will be filled with 20,000 pounds of snow! There will also be ice sculpture demonstrations, face-painting and more. And, yes, there will be fireworks at the end.

Fireworks over the Gulf: If you have some time off, take a trip to Galveston for an oceanside Independence Day celebration. This weekend’s events include the Boots N Eats on the Beach food truck festival, tons of live music and five nights of fireworks over the gulf. Add in the amusement park and historic downtown, and you’ll have all the ingredients for a fun weekend!

Dallas Area

Fair Park Fourth: Pack in a day of fun with rides and gooey, greasy carnival fare at Fair Park, which culminates in a fireworks display at 9:45 p.m.

Red, White & the Blues: Sit back, relax and enjoy a picnic at the Dallas Arboretum while live blues music plays throughout the day.

Old-Fashioned Fourth: Amidst the charm of an old-timey village, families can meet characters in period costumes, play old-fashioned games and enjoy live music at the Dallas Heritage Village.

Fort Worth’s Fourth: Chillax on an inner tube and let your problems float away on the gentle waves of the Trinity River. There will be live music, food for purchase, a Kids’ Zone and fireworks to cap off the day of fun at Panther Island Pavilion.

Fourth of July at Reunion Tower Geo-Deck: While enjoying good snacks and libations, catch some stunning 360-degree views of the Dallas skyline — and fireworks!

The Revolution Lives: For you history buffs, here’s your chance to experience the ratification of the Declaration of Independence. Head to the Saputo Law Firm and listen as local attorneys and performance artists stage a dramatic reading of the words that set the tone of the American spirit.

Firework Alternatives

For those of you who aren’t into crowds or loud noises, there are plenty of alternatives you can use to light up your night. From glow sticks to sparklers, there are several fun light sources for all ages.

Another great firework alternative is the Luci Light. When you sign up for our Give Brighter Plan, we’ll send you an inflatable solar-powered Luci Light and send one to one of the 1.5 billion people around the world live without a reliable source of electricity.

Whatever your fourth of July plans are, we hope you have a safe and happy day!
