Lucknow: In yet another initiative to make the Women of Uttar Pradesh self-reliant, the Yogi Government has started Prerna Canteens at 832 Community Health Centres in the state, which have not only enhanced income of women of self-help groups running these canteens, but also make fresh and nutritious food available to patients and their attendants at affordable rates.

Among districts, Azamgarh boasts of having the maximum 23 Prerna Canteens at CHCS, followed by Sitapur and Jaunpur with 21 each and Pratapgarh and Prayagraj with 20 each. Besides, 19 Prerna Canteens are running at CHCs in Saharanpur, which is followed by Raebareli (18), Agra, Bulandshahr, Gorakhpur and Hardoi (17 each), Gonda, Bahraich, Kheri and Unnao (16 each), 15 each in Aligarh, Ballia, Barabanki and Bareilly, 14 each in Basti, Badaun, Kushinagar and Sultanpur, 13 each in Amethi, Ghazipur, Deoria, Maharajganj, Mirzapur and Shahjahanpur, 12 each in Kanpur Dehat, Ayodhya and Bijnor , 11 each in Jhansi, Mathura and Siddharth Nagar, 10 each in Balrampur, Fatehpur, Kannauj, Kanpur Nagar, Mainpuri, Muzaffarnagar, and Sambhal, 9 each in Ambedkar Nagar, Farrukhabad, Firozabad, Hamirpur, Lucknow, Mau, Meerut and Varanasi, 8 each in Etawah, Hathras, Jalaun, Kaushambi and Pilibhit, 7 each in Amroha, Auraiya, Banda, Etah, Moradabad, Shamli, Shravasti and Sonbhadra, 6 each in Chitrakoot, Hapur, Sant Kabir Nagar and Sant Ravidas Nagar, 5 each in Baghpat, Kasganj, Lalitpur and Rampur as well as 4 each in Chandauli, Ghaziabad and Mahoba. Three Prerna Canteens are running in Gautam Buddha Nagar.

It is worth mentioning here that the Yogi Government is taking effective and concrete steps to make women associated with self-help groups, cluster level organizations and village level organizations formed under the State Livelihood Mission self-reliant.

Mission Director of the State Rural Livelihood Mission, C. Indumati said that under the supervision of the Yogi government, the department is taking all possible steps to increase the income of the women of the self-help groups. Women are being made self-reliant by connecting them with various activities. She said that Community Investment Fund, Village Organization Livelihood Fund or CCL should be used to run these canteens while the canteens should be opened in places that have more traffic. Arrangement should be made so that not only patients and attendants at CHCs, but also general public can have food at the canteens.

It is noteworthy that on the one hand, women of self-help groups are being provided opportunities to become self-reliant through Prerna canteens, on the other nutritious food is being provided to patients and attendants at reasonable rates. Nutritious food is also being arranged for pregnant women under Janani Suraksha.

The canteen provides hot food to the hospitalized patients and attendants. It is leading to faster recovery of patients and is empowering women working at the canteens.
