New Delhi: Did you know that a Village in Maharashtra celebrates Dussehra or Vijayadashami by performing ‘aarti’ of Demon King Ravana on a day when his effigies are burnt in other parts of the country.

According to the villagers of Sangola village in Maharashtra it is believed that the people here are employed and are able to sustain their livelihood because of Ravana’s blessings. Also, it is because of the demon king that their is peace and happiness in the village.

Residents of this village says that the tradition of worshipping Ravana for his “intelligence and ascetic qualities” is being practiced in the village for last 300 years.

Also, a tall black stone statue of the 10-headed demon king is placed at the centre of the village.

The villagers believe in Lord Rama , but they have so much faith in demon king that do not burn his effigies.

Every year, people from across the country visit this small village on the occasion of Dussehra to catch a glimpse of the Lanka king’s statue and some even offer prayers.

On the occasion of Dussehra, effigies of Ravana are set on fire by the devotees in the belief that good always triumphs over evil.
