Veteran Odia actor Mihir Das passes away; Politicians, filmmakers express grief and gratitude

New Delhi: The legendary Odia actor Mihir Das passed away on Tuesday. The actor was aged 55 years was admitted to the hospital on December 2021 after suffering a mild heart attack. Mihir Das was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Cuttack, where he was put on ventilator support.

The 63-year-old was a chronic renal patient and was undergoing dialysis for a few years. Odia Cine Artists Association Secretary Sritam Dash, confirming Das’ death said that he breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the private hospital.

Das’ death came as a shock to several politicians and personalities from the film’s fraternity. Taking to Twitter, filmmaker Nila Madhab Panda wrote, “Heartbreaking to hear that Veteran Odia Actor Mihir Das is no more. Can’t believe he is gone so soon. A true pioneer of the Odisha Entertainment industry. My deepest condolences to the family and loved ones. Om Shanti.”

Mihir Das had a long journey in the world of acting. In 1998 and 2005, Das won the Best Actor Award from the state government for his performance in ‘Laxmi Protima’ and ‘Pheria Mo Suna Bhauni’ respectively. Das was noticed for his performance in ‘Pua Mora Bholashankar.’ In 2007, Das received the Best Comedian Award for ‘Mu Tate Love Karuchi’ and in 2010 he received the Best Supporting Actor Award for ‘Prema Adhei Akhyara.’

He was a commendable anchor in socially relevant programmes on TV channels.
