Sidhu’s advisors stoke row with remarks on Pak & Kashmir; a look at their anti-India leanings

New Delhi: With escalating fight between Capt Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu over latter’s advisors comment has sent Punjab Congress into the throes of fresh crisis in the state.

Punjab Cong chief Navjot Singh Sidhu on Monday summoned two of his newly appointed advisors – Malwinder Singh Mali and Pyare Lal Garg over the controversy spared off by their comments on Kashmir and a controversial sketch of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Sidhu’s advisor Malwinder Singh Mali had kicked off a major controversy by posting a sketch of Indira Gandhi standing in front of a heap of human skulls, holding a gun with a skull hanging on it.

Navjot Singh Sidhu had on August 11 appointed four personal advisors.

With the controversy raging & triggering political bickering within the Punjab Congress, here is a look at the controversial past of Sidhu’s advisors.

Sidhu’s advisors have history of anti-India statements

According to reports, almost all of Sidhu’s advisors have had a penchant for stoking anti-India and anti-Hindu sentiments. These advisors have been an adversary to Captain Amarinder Singh and have also made many anti-India statements in the past.

It is said that Navjot Sidhu, in his bid to build an anti-Captain team, ignored anti-India and anti-Hindu backgrounds of his advisors namely Mohammad Mustafa, Dr Pyare Lal Garg and Malwinder Singh Mali. Only Dr Amar Singh is said to be have a clear and neutral image in Punjab and is someone whom Sidhu has known for sometime while all others have no association with Sidhu in past.

1) Mohammad Mustafa

Mohammad Mustafa is a 1985-batch senior IPS officer and is said to be among favourite officers of Captain Amarinder Singh prior to his election as the CM in 2017. He was in race for Punjab DGP but was superseded by Dinkar Gupta. It was then that Mustafa switches loyalties and came close to Sidhu

Mustafa also contested a legal case against the appointment of Gupta. It is mentionable that Mustafa is represented by Ejaz Maqbool who also represented Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind in review petition in the Sri Ram Janmabhumi case in December, 2019 and other anti-Hindu legal cases. His wife Razia Sultana is a cabinet minister in Punjab Government and an elected MLA from Muslim majority constituency of Malerkotla from INC.
He maintains a neutral and ‘secular’ ideology on social media with a subtle pro-Islamic and leftist propaganda. A couple of his tweets show his left leanings and distaste for RSS & Hinduism, in particular.

2) Dr Pyare Lal Garg

Dr Pyare Lal Garg, an eminent physician by profession, is open critique of Captain Amarinder Singh and Punjab Government. He is closely associated with Chandigarh-based pro-Khalistan organisation Kendri Sri Guru Singh Sabha and liberal ideologist organisation Pind Bachao Punjab Bachao Committee.

He was part of the press conference held by Kendri Sri Guru Singh Sabha which alleged that the Red Fort violence was a conspiracy of Centre to defame farmers protest.

On August 15, 2020, Dr Pyare Lal Garg alongwith Kendri Sri Guru Singh Sabha observed India’s Independence Day as ‘Punjab Devastation Day’. The organisation blamed both India and Pakistan for the partition and in turn devastation of Punjab. This amounts to no less than an instigation to Punjab youth against the nation.

On June 5, 2020, the same body termed 1984 Operation Blue Star as a genocide and held the nation and govt of the day responsible for spawning of Khalistani separatists.

3) Malwinder Singh Mali

Malwinder Singh Mali is a self-proclaimed human rights activist. He served as the General Secretary of Punjab Human Rights Organisation (PHRO) in early 90s. PHRO has been engaged in highly controversial role in so-called investigation of abduction and extra-judicial murders in Punjab.

Mali also had close links with then SGPC president Gurcharan Singh Tohra. He was also arrested in 1992 for participation in radical activities related to Ram Singh Biling abduction case.

Malwinder Singh Mali is an open-mouth Hinduphobic and advocates “self-determination of Punjab and Sikhs” on Khalistan-like terms. He has been reprimanded by INC leaders themselves for posting anti-Hindu provoking content on social media.

4) Dr. Amar Singh

Dr Amar Singh has been an advisor to Navjot Sidhu in the past too, when he was Local Bodies Minister in Punjab govt.
