New Delhi: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, Delhi State would be undertaking a massive screening drive under the banner ‘Mission Aarigya’ – Sarve Santu Niramayah. The drive will be initiated from May 16 wherein ABVP karyakartas will be going door to door in slums to screen people for COVID-19 symptoms using temperature guns and oxymeters across Delhi.

The drive aims to stop and further prevent the spread of COVID-19 in various slum areas of Delhi. Delhi has been struggling with mismanagement of health facilities during the pandemic like non-availability of beds, oxygen and medicines in hospitals. It has been observed that early detection of COVID-19 and undertaking immediate precautions, the need of hospitalization reduces. Due to the lack of awareness, many people despite having the symptoms of COVID-19 are not taking the cognizance of the situation in full seriousness. Thus, initiating this drive becomes all the more important.

Slum dwellers to be screened, test & isolation if infection suspected

Upon screening, those detected with possible symptoms would be encouraged to get their RT-PCR test done at the nearest centre. Information regarding the nearest government hospitals and the isolation centres run by Sangh-inspired Seva Bharti will also be provided. People suspected of COVID-19 infection will be encouraged to isolate themselves to avoid further spread of the virus to their family members.

Keeping in mind all the SOP’s, all the karyakartas will adorn a PPE kit and maintain appropriate physical distance while the screening process is being undertaken. A Corona kit comprising of sanitizers, masks, multivitamins and PCM has been prepared in accordance to the guidelines issued by medical experts for the treatment of mild COVID-19 infection. The kit would be provided to those suspected or found infected, so that it comes to their use during their period of home isolation.

100 Delhi slums on ABVP’s radar, 25 teams formed

ABVP aspires to reach every household in around 100 slums of Delhi. The karyakartas have been divided into 25 teams with each team comprising of 5 members. Sanitization and vaccine awareness campaign will also be carried out simultaneously by these teams. An initiative to follow up the symptomatic people will be carried out by the team members until their recovery. ABVP has selected 130 volunteers for this campaign and it also appeals to the students to join them in their collaborative efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Sidharth Yadav, State Secretary ABVP Delhi said – “This is going to be the biggest screening drive across Delhi. Alarmed by the accelerating positivity rate of COVID-19 in these colonies, we have deicided to run this campaign in order to break the chain of the virus and curb its spread substantially. We will be following all protective norms while screening. Our karyakartas know the risk involved but are still keen to discharge their responsibility towards the society. We have served around 4000 people in this second wave of covid in delhi and shall continue to do so. We hope that this initiative by the youth would boost India’s efforts in its fight against COVID-19. We appeal to the youth to come forward and play an imperative role in these difficult times.”
