Making Gujarat water-surplus: CM Rupani launches rainwater harvesting project in 1,000 govt schools

New Delhi: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today called for Rainwater Harvesting in Government School and offices. Water is life and we all should make collective efforts for conserving water by adopting ancient traditions of underground water storage tank system.

The Chief Minsiter launched first such successful experiment of rainwater harvesting in government school of Vadodara district through video conference.

Mr. Rupani briefed about the Sujalam Sufalam Jal Abhiyan, a water conservation scheme launched by the state government since last three years through public cooperation. Because of it we are able to increase the storage capacity of 40628 lakh cubic feet in three years despite the challenge of COVID-19 transition this year.

Detailing about the planned steps taken to make Gujarat a water surplus state Mr. Rupani said that, Gujarat has shown a new hope to the nation through Sujalam Sufalam Jal Abhiyan, reuse of water, 10 desalination plants to make seawater drinkable, purify wastewater in cities and metros. He expressed water as the basis of development.

Vadodara District Administration has completed the Rainwater Harvesting Project in these school buildings in a short span of only nine months by covering about 1000 Government Primary and Secondary School buildings in the district in phases. The project, which was completed at a total cost of Rs. 6 crores, has received financial support from public enterprises under CSR Activities and various government grants from the district administration, District Mineral Foundation Fund, etc. Due to the efforts made by Vadodara District Administration for rainwater harvesting approximately 10 crore liters of rainwater per year will be stopped from being wasted and will be stored for proper use.

Applauding the efforts Mr. Rupani said that, Water is a gift given by god and we must use it wisely keeping in mind the future generation.

Mr. Rupani also dedicated laid foundation stones of various schemes of Dabhoi through video conferencing and released a book “VarshaJalnidhi”.

Speaker of Gujarat Legislative Assembly Mr. Rajendra Trivedi, Education Minister Mr. Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, Secretary to the Chief Minister Mr. Ashwani kumar from Gandhinagar as well Minister of State Mr. Yogeshbhai Patel, MLAs, MPs, office bearers of Vadodara city-district participated in this e-launch through video conference.
