New Delhi: The #MeToo movement, which exploded in India late last week, is taking down powerful men. Until now, India has hardly seen any urban working women’s revolution. Compared to the West, where women led suffragette movements and later revolution against gender discrimination. However, things have changed in past one week.

Utsav Chakraborty
Comedian Utsav Chakraborty, who has featured in some videos of comedy collective All India Bakchod (AIB), was Accused of sexual harassment by multiple women The allegations came to light as part of a Twitter thread about the way Indian men behaved onboard a cruise liner.
Here’s the tweet that unmasked the dark side of the comedy circuit:
I want everyone to know @Wootsaw is a piece of shit. He sent me a dick pic, was creepy, then cried saying I’ll ruin his career if I tell others. I told two of the most influential men in comedy in India. Nothing happened. Let me tell you what else he has done with others.

Her confession prompted many other women to come out as well
Chakraborty, in a statement issued on his Twitter page, said issues are more complicated than they seem.
It’s a little too late now but I am sorry. I really am. The past 24 hours were a crucible. I faced a very scary personal truth. I can’t think of myself as a victim anymore. Please tell me what to do now. How to make things right? I don’t want anyone to be hurt anymore.

“I don’t know what to say here and fight back (or even if I should). Literally, everyone I know has turned against me and I don’t blame them for that. But the whole thing is far more complicated than it appears.
“I am not discrediting anyone. It’s not my place to. But this whole thing needs a lot of patience. And an incredible amount of context. Which I will gove. Hopefully sooner than later,” he wrote.
2. Tanmay Bhat
Tanmay Bhat was accused by a woman of not acting on complaints against Utsav Chakraborty, a YouTuber and ex-AIB member who was called out on social media last week. As of now, he has stepped away from his association with AIB.

3. Gursimran Khamba
On Monday, a survivor who wished to stay anonymous accused Gursimran Khamba from popular comedy collective All India Bakchod (AIB) of harassing her back in 2015-16. He reportedly made unwelcome advances towards her on a couple of occasions. Calling her up in an inebriated state, he reportedly “emotionally blackmailed and emotionally abused her”.

The Human Resources department at AIB issued a statement saying Gursimran Khamba would go on a “temporary leave of absence” until there is more clarity on the matter.
4. Rajat Kapoor
Kapoor, the award-winning actor and director of films such as “Aankhon Dekhi”, was accused by a woman journalist of “lewd” and unprofessional behaviour.

He said on Twitter Sunday that he has tried to be a “good human being” all his life and apologises from the “bottom of his heart”.

5. Vikas Bahl
Allegations of sexual misconduct were put on director Vikas Bahl by a former employee of the production company. Not just this, Kangana Ranaut, another Queen actress, Nayani Dixit came forward to accuse the director.
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Nayani said, Whatever the girl has accused Vikas Bahl is not at all wrong because he also tried his hand on me. I literally told him that ‘main tumhe maarungi if you do this again’. So I am sure he did the same with the girl in question as well.”
Owing up to the allegations on Vikas, one of the co-founders of the now-dissolved Phantom Films, Vikramaditya Motwane tweeted about the matter:

6. Chetan Bhagat
A woman journalist shared a WhatsApp chat with author Chetan Bhagat on social media amid the #metoo movement.

7. Nana Patekar
Ex-Miss World Tanushree revealed how before shooting the song, she had clearly mentioned that she will not enact or perform any lewd, vulgar or uncomfortable steps. However, on the fourth day of the shoot, Nana Patekar’s behaviour was inappropriate. The matter has now taken a legal turn as Nana Patekar has slammed Tanushree with a legal notice. Tanushree has sought women commission’s intervention days after she alleged that veteran actor Nana Patekar allegedly misbehaved with her.
8. Vivek Agnihotri
Tanushree accused Agnihotri of behaving inappropriately with her during the making of 2005 film ‘Chocolate’, which he directed. The film also starred Irrfan Khan, Arshad Warsi, Suniel Shetty and Emraan Hashmi.
9. Alok Nath
Filmaker, Vinta Nanda, of the avant-garde 1990s’ show “Tara” fame, has accused actor Alok Nath — known for his “sanskaari” on-screen image — of sexually violating her almost two decades ago.
Later, confirming the same to IANS, Nanda said, “It is Alok Nath. I thought saying ‘sanskaari’ would do the needful.”
10. Kailash Kher
A female journalist accused Kailash of sexual harassment. She said, “This creep kept his hand on my thigh.” In his defence, Kailash said in a statement to IANS, “For all those who know me and have come across me, will know how much I respect humanity, especially women, even more for the ones who work in media since their work is difficult.”
