And this versatile nature is making SUVs more and more popular in Australia. For Aussies, family SUV options are countless. Every other day, you can find new cars popping up in this category.

Today, we bring for you a comparison between two strikingSUVs for adventurous buyers. Peugeot 3008 vs Subaru XV – which SUV is right for you? Let’s dig deeper into the specifications of these two midsize SUVs to help you make a better decision.

Peugeot 3008 vs Subaru XV: Basic pros and cons

Pros

Peugeot 3008 – swanky looks, fabulous interiors and comfortable ride quality.

Subaru XV – superb engine performance, subtle design.

Cons

Peugeot 3008 – a slightly higher price tag, absence of AWD (All Wheel Drive).

Subaru XV – cabin needs an update.

Peugeot 3008 vs Subaru XV: Design

When it comes to design, the Peugeot 3008 gets full marks. The French manufacturers have given this family SUV a striking appearance. The new front-end design adds to its bold styling. It can woo anyone with its frameless front grille, smoked LED tail lights, and sabre-toothed LED daytime running lights. In its side profile, you will see 18-19 inches wheels, with some models having chrome around the bottom edges.

The Subaru XV, with this full time four-wheel drive, means you don’t have to stop even on the toughest terrains. With slight changes from the previous XV range, the new 2021 model has a tweaked grille, new alloy wheels and improved front bumper. Though this family SUV looks like a hatchback on stilts, a tough four-wheel drive lies beneath its subtle and conventional exteriors. Subaru XV appeals to young drivers.

Peugeot 3008 vs Subaru XV: Interiors

The Peugeot 3008 interiors are a talking point. You’ll find many gadgets, including android auto smartphone mirroring, Apple Carplay and built-in sat nav. Depending on the choice of models, you get a 8-10” touchscreen with sharp graphics. However, the steering wheel sits low in the interiors, and you have to look over the top to reach its digital driver. At night, the interiors glow with ambient lighting.

On comparing the steering wheels of Subaru XV vs Peugeot 3008, the former has wheels and seats where you can make lots of adjustments. The leather trim is the perfect touch, and you can increase the ride height with the help of height adjusters. However, the quality of the infotainment system buttons may disappoint you. Like the Peugeot 3008, you also get Apple Carplay, Android Auto smartphone mirroring, Bluetooth and a DAB radio. Both models have dual zone climate control features.

Peugeot 3008 vs Subaru XV:  Engine

With three engines in its 2021 model, the Peugeot 3008 it has considerable power. A 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine (Puretech 165) powers its Allure and GT petrol models.  It can go from 0 to 100km/h in 9.9 seconds. In diesel, you’ll get a 1.5-litre BlueHDi 130 that comes with 129bhp that will pull the vehicle effortlessly.

There are two plug-in hybrid versions with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. One is a simple hybrid with the four-wheel drive, while the other is Hybrid4 300, where an electric motor powers the rear wheels.

In Subaru XV, you may get limited options. In Australia, currently, there are two drive trains. One is a 2.0-litre petrol engine that is quite powerful. Another is a hybrid version with an electric motor like the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross or Mitsubishi Outlander. Both the trim levels are all-wheel drive.

Peugeot 3008 vs Subaru XV: Performance and drive

As a mid-sized SUV, the Peugeot 3008 offers a comfortable drive even on bumpy terrains. The steering does not need much movement. With the help of paddle shifters, you can shift to manual or sports mode with ease. The 3008 suits a family well – comfortable and quiet. In fact, the hybrid versions are almost silent.

When it comes to Subaru XV, all XV models offer you comfortable and easy-to steer drive. The re-worked front suspension has made it better for cruising through the suburbs. An underpowered engine and the burden of all-wheel drive reflects in its performance, though. In the hybrid version, the motor also lacks a little bit of strength. Its hybrid variants have e-Active Shift Control that tunes the hybrid version to the CVT. On cornering, though, it resists body lean and feels agile. Thus, driving an XV is undoubtedly more enjoyable than its rivals Nissan Qashqai, but not more than Seat Ateca.

Peugeot 3008 vs Subaru XV: Safety

Peugeot 3008 already got a 5-star ANCAP crash test safety rating in 2016. Now, in 2021 models, you will only see better and improved safety tech and features. All of its models come with Auto Emergency Braking, lane departure warning, high beam lights, 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control and blind-spot warning. If you pick the Allure model, you’ll be blessed with its Advanced Grip Control System that offers highway modes for snow, sand, and mud. In GT models, you get lane-keeping assistance technology. The midsize SUV comes with six airbags to save you from unexpected incidents on the road.

The Subaru XV beats its rival Skoda Karoq in its safety features. Except for its base model, all other variants have a forward faced stereo camera safety suite. Subaru calls it “eyesight.” Most of the safety kit features are similar to that of Peugeot 3008. All XVs feature excellent stability, brake and traction controls.

Peugeot 3008 vs Subaru XV: Fuel consumption

For the Peugeot 3008 1.6 THP active (Allure) model, fuel consumption is 7.3 litres per 100kms, while for the GT model sees 7.0 litres per 100km. The GT sport model will consume less fuel as it has engine start-stop technology. Fuel tank capacity is 53L.

The Subaru XV has a fuel consumption 7.0L/100km for the 2.0i variant, while hybrid variants save a little fuel with a capacity of 6.5L/100km.

Peugeot 3008 vs Subaru XV: Price

For the base model Allure, private buyers will have to pay $44,990 (before on-road costs). The GT petrol and diesel models come at $47,990 and $50,990, respectively. For the flagship GT model, you will have to pay $54,990.

From the entry-level XV 2.0i to the premium level XVi-S, the price ranges between $29,690 to $37, 290. The interesting thing with the Subaru XV is that its lower trim levels are more expensive than its rivals, while the top models have a price range below them. The e-boxer hybrid drivetrain options also hover between $35,000-$40,000

Peugeot 3008 vs Subaru XV: Verdict

Though the Peugeot 3008 falls in the price range of a luxury SUV, it offers a fantastic alternative for driving off the beaten track. It is better to go for the base model Allure as it gives you driving par excellence and falls within an affordable range.

In Subaru XV, you will find only subtle changes from its mainstream range like the Subaru Outback or Subaru Forester. Its base model has a breathless engine with a small boot. Though the car has a better safety suite, you will have to pick the premium model to take full advantage of its safety tech and features. The Peugeot 3008’s powerful engine, thoughtful interiors and comfortable ride make it a better pick than Subaru XV.
