3 Recent worst data breaches in the ASEAN Region

 Now, the Asean Region has become the main target for cyber attacks. There are some recent worst data breaches of this region which show the region’s weaknesses in the areas of cybersecurity and data protection.

Here’s 3 worst data breaches in the ASEAN region:-

  • Cebuana’s marketing server breached, January 2019: Philippines

On 19 January, Philippine-based Cebuana’s marketing server was Breached in which more than 900,000 users details were affected. Breached information included the date of birth, name, addresses and source of income. Fortunately, transaction details were not breached and the company’s main servers remained “safe and protected”.

Cebuana Lhuillier Pawnshop commonly known as Cebuana is a Philippine-based leading and largest non-bank financial services provider specializing in pawning, remittance, and microinsurance.

  • Singapore suffered the biggest health data breach, July 2018 & January 2019: Singapore

In January 2019, it was the second time when Singapore suffered a health data breach. Confidential data about more than 14K people diagnosed with HIV, including foreign visitors, was stolen in Singapore and leaked online. Confidential information names, addresses, HIV status and other medical information were included in the data breach.

In July 2018 Singapore was subject to the largest data breach in its history in which more than 1.5 million patients details were affected including Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and several ministers. The leaked information included names, National Registration Identity Card numbers, addresses, gender and dates of birth. 160,000 patients had details related to outpatient dispensed medicines as well.

  • True Corp’s data breached, March 2018: Thailand

In March 2018, True Corp’s identity documents of around 45,000 clients were exposed. The 32GB data cache included 45,736 files, consisting mainly of JPG and PDF scans of identity documents including scanned ID cards, driving licences and possibly passports.

True Corp is Thailand’s second-biggest mobile network that provides telecommunication services and various value-added services, which includes digital data network, public telephone, multimedia, Internet service provider, mobile phone service and pay tv service.
