Hackers code a Monero web Miner in the Page of the American Politician Ron Paul

An online mining tool infected, in a format similar to a malware, the platform of American politician Ron Paul. People who enter the website of the recognized member of the Republican Party activate a software that monero mine using the computers of visitors.

Published by the Twitter account dedicated to economic security,  Bad Packets Report , the website of Ron Paul, a member of the United States Republican Party and a celebrated doctor, was hacked by the #cryptojacking campaign, who used an old telephone cellphone , by plugging it directly into the computer, to run the malware that is left active for several days.

Web miners work with Javascript to perform blockchain authentication operations directly from the web pages and it is becoming increasingly popular in the ecosystem, because they work for the Monero mining. CoinHive and Minr have become highly effective in this task.

This attack on the website of Ron Paul  is part of a campaign that already has other websites under the watch, which are notified in PublicWWW .

The webminer’s mining scripts are embedded in the code of the website, which is why it is very difficult to identify when one is operating on a specific computer, beyond the fact that the portals are slow to load much more than usual. This is due to the automatic execution of JavaScript miners, which consume up to 100% of the user’s CPU processing capacity to perform mining operations. The cybersecurity researcher Troy Mursh commented for CriptoNoticias some data that should be taken into account on this type of software.

On the other hand, CoinHive miners have become increasingly popular and are being linked to illegal practices. A few months after its launch, it was reported that a group of Chinese pornography websites used this product to generate profits without authorization from their customers, and security researchers have also set off alarms against this new form of mining.

The company has faced recent disagreements, after a hacker stole the profits of the users of the platform. However, the firm has kept up its new projects and objectives in the ecosystem, such as providing humanitarian aid to children in Pakistan; news that benefits the Monero market and could establish the confidence of users regarding the failures that this solution has generated.
