SEC appoints new adviser on crypto-currencies

The Securities and Exchange Commission of the United States (SEC)  has a working group on crypto-currencies, and now has approved a new position of a crypto-consultant. Valeri Shepanyk, who was previously the head of the SEC working group on securities supervision, was appointed to this post.

Appointment looks quite reasonable, given that about a year ago Shepanyk already worked with the projects of the primary placement of tokens ( ICO ). It was then that she stated that for the development of ICO projects it is necessary to put investor protection first.

The created post is absolutely new, officially it is called “Assistant to the Head of Corporate Finance and Senior Advisor for Digital Assets and Innovations of the Director of the Bill Hinman Division”. Its creation is another sign that, despite the absence of a regulatory framework, the SEC invests a sufficient amount of resources in the Crypto Currency area.

Shepanyk already heads the SEC working group on distributed registry technology and possesses knowledge in the field of crypto-currency. Now the SEC intends to increase the use of its expertise in and knowledge. The Commission expects that the new appointment should either bring Regulatory Measures closer or lead to a waiver of such measures.

Former US attorney general of the US Justice Department and Coinbase board member Catherine Hoon recently stated that it would take years to introduce regulation of crypto and lock-up: “We do not want regulation to go ahead of understanding.” Chapter SEC Jay Clayton and other regulators supported this idea, stressing that they do not want to introduce rash regulatory measures that interfere with innovation.

Khon’s point of view is that due to the innovative nature of the blockchain and crypto currency, any regulation can quickly lose relevance. However, some market observers expect that regulation will become the catalyst for the market rally this year.

In the meantime, the SEC is not going to stand aside, trying its hand at ICO and other crypto-currency projects. So, recently the Commission closed the ICO  under the name of Titanium Blockchain Infrastructure Services, which attracted 21 million dollars from investors.

The regulator also plans to hold a meeting on fintehu and crypto-currencies at the forthcoming conference of investors.
