The 10 most important consumer trends for 2019

The firm Ericsson, Swedish multinational of networks and telecommunications based in Stockholm, has just published the 8th edition of its annual report on Consumer Trends ” 10 Hot Consumer Trends 2019 “, which is based on a study carried out with 34 million of users with advanced technology knowledge during October 2018 in 10 relevant cities around the world.

In this last report, the Ericsson Consumer and Industry Lab, responsible for carrying out this annual report, evaluates the reflections and predictions of this large group of consumers, focusing on the technology of the immediate future. Among the technologies evaluated are the Virtual Reality, Automation, 5G communications technology and of course something that today is in the mouth of many people and could not be missing in a study of this magnitude, Artificial Intelligence.

The 10 Hot Consumer Trends 2019 reveals that “autonomous and predictive mood technology could soon play a more important role in people’s daily lives”.

Dr. Michael Björn, Director of the Research Agenda of Ericsson Consumer & Industry Lab and lead author of the report, referring to the autonomous and predictive mood technology, stated the following:

Imagine a smartphone that not only knows what it does, but also who you are. Nowadays, Artificial Intelligence can understand your personality just by looking you in the eyes. It is clear that those who consume technology see a future in which our devices know us better than we do them.

Below are the 10 most important consumer trends for 2019:

1. Conscious devices

More than 60% of users of virtual assistants think that the devices that understand our moods will be integrated in three years.

2. Smart conversations

More than 65% of virtual assistant users think that intelligent speakers will converse as family members in three years.

3. Spy Apps

More than 45% of respondents think that applications collect data about them even when they do not use the application.

4. Forced agreement

The fact that you always have to accept cookies to collect data bothers 51% of consumers.

5. Internet of skills

More than 50% of the users of Augmented Reality or Virtual Reality want applications, glasses and gloves that offer virtual guides for practical and daily tasks, such as cooking or making small repairs.

6. Consumption without contact

About half of the users of the virtual assistants want automated invoices and subscriptions, as well as domestic self-supply services.

7. Mental obesity

Since daily decision making is increasingly automated, 31% of consumers expect to go to “mental gyms” soon to exercise their brains.

8. Eco Me

39% of consumers want an ecological watch that measures their carbon footprint.

9. Digital twin

48% of users of RA or RV want online avatars that imitate them exactly, so that they can be in two places at once.

10. 5G to automate society

Around 20% of smartphone users believe that 5G will allow better connect IoT devices such as appliances and energy meters.
