It has long been rumored that Samsung is developing a folding smartphone, capable of bending over itself. And how revolutionary technology would also be an object of desire on the part of Apple, which already revolutionized the market with the iPhone and does not intend to be overtaken by the South Koreans. In 2016 it seemed that Samsung was about to take the step and announce launches for 2017. But that year came, and nothing happened. Now, the music sounds again, but something has changed: now, Samsung and Google play a duet, since those of Mountain View would be developing a customized version of Android capable of adjusting to the particularities of the Samsung device.
Bloomberg reports that the Samsung mobile Folding project would be in the final phase of its development, and that when it goes out on the street it would under the name of Galaxy F, although the manufacturer refers to the device with the code name ‘ Winner ‘(Winner). The appearance of the Galaxy F will not differ too much from the conceptual video that the company published in 2014: thus, a 4 “screen will allow users to access the functions of the phone without having to open it. When they need to perform more complex tasks (watch movies, play videogames or edit a document) will be when they can ‘unfold’ your device.
However, there is still doubt about the direction in which the phone will unfold : according to Bloomberg’s information, Samsung would have two final prototypes: one that opens vertically and another that would do so on its horizontal axis. The first one, apparently preferred by the engineers involved in the project, would have a 7 “screen when it was open, presenting an appearance very similar to that of a phablet.
Obstacles in its development? For now, two. The first is the weight, because the current prototypes would be around 200 grams , 23 more than the iPhone XS Max, but the only apparent solution seems to be to reduce batteries. Even worse is the second problem: the AMOLED screen, covered by a transparent film and not by glass, “breaks like dry paper” when it exceeds its folding threshold . We will have to be attentive to the news coming from South Korea.
