The Periodic Table of DevOps Tools V4 Category Highlight: Security + Testing + Containers

Today, we will highlight the last 3 categories for the 4th revision of the Periodic Table of DevOps Tools. Time is running out, so make sure you get your votes in as April 20th is the last day for voting! Now, let’s talk about Security, Testing, and Containers.

Security

Organizations have struggled choosing between speed or security during the application development and delivery process. That should not be the case anymore. The Security category list a powerful set of security tools that can be embedded into the development and delivery lifecycle giving organizations the performance they want and the security they need. These are the tools used to ensure the security and integrity of your software assets throughout the software delivery process. The ability to introduce security into all phases of the delivery pipeline (development, testing, UAT, etc) is necessary to produce solid software. This also includes the ability to run security in production, continuously protecting the applications from future threats and vulnerabilities. Let us know the tools you choose to protect your critical assets.

Testing

Software testing tools have been a staple in the Periodic Table of DevOps Tools since the beginning as organizations have been leveraging some form of test tools for as long as applications and software have been built. This has always been one of the largest categories as there are tools that test in all phases of software development and delivery – code level, unit level, system level, performance, quality, etc. Because it is so large of a category, it is important to vote for the tools you prefer the most. Help us choose the tools that have made a difference for your organization. Chaos engineering, a new way to stress test software by carefully injecting harm into systems to test the systems’ response to it, is becoming more popular and will continue to evolve in the coming years. Chaos engineering is included for the first time in the Testing category. Vote today and help us reflect the DevOps testing landscape for the next years to come!

Containers

Containers, a new category in version 3 of the Periodic Table of DevOps Tools, continues to grow and has become an important platform for software development and delivery. A container is a standard unit of software that packages code and all dependencies so that the code is easily portable from one environment to another. For the category of “Containers” in the Periodic Table of DevOps Tools, we have focused on tools that support the ability to run and manage containers as well as the container environments themselves, plus higher level orchestration and management systems for automating container deployment and scaling.
