The Periodic Table of DevOps Tools is changing! Version 4 of the Table will have a fresh look, input from the DevOps community, and new categories! In today’s double category highlight, let’s learn more about Continuous Integration and Deployment.
Continuous Integration
Continuous integration (CI) tools help organizations automate the building and testing of software. CI is where many organizations begin their DevOps journey. Developers are encouraged to integrate code into a shared repository as often a possible (small increments). Each check-in is then verified by an automated build and test process, allowing teams to detect problems early. By integrating regularly, users can detect errors quickly, and locate them more easily.
Deployment
Deployment is the ability to automate the deployment of applications to any environment or platform across each phase of software delivery from development to QA to production. This is a staple category in DevOps – the “CD” in CI/CD. All tools in this category help organizations simplify the deployment of software, whether it is using Infrastructure as Code, model based deployments, or orchestration. Which tools help you automate the deployment your software?
