Law enforcement officials, working in conjunction with the Provincial Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement Unit (R.O.P.E.), have apprehended and pressed charges against a 26-year-old individual who evaded police and left the site of a fatal accident.

The victim, a 22-year-old woman, an international student from India and resident of Mississauga, was riding her bicycle in a northward direction on Airport Road when, allegedly, the Mazda collided with her and promptly fled the scene.

At the time of this incident, the suspect was the subject of a nationwide warrant due to parole violations, and he was unlawfully at large.

The tragic collision unfolded on the early morning of Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at approximately 3:15 a.m., along Airport Road, near Morningstar Drive, within the confines of Mississauga. The incident involved a 2018 blue Mazda.

Shortly thereafter, law enforcement officers discovered the Mazda abandoned, devoid of occupants.

Tragically, the victim was declared deceased at the accident scene. She was an exchange student who had been pursuing studies in Canada for the past four months.

Investigators identified the driver as Traishaun Delpeache, and on Thursday, August 31, 2023, he was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Dangerous Operation Causing Death

  • Failure to Stop After Accident Causing Death

  • Flight From Peace Officer

  • Drive Motor Vehicle with Improper License

He was held for a bail hearing and attended the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton where he was remanded into custody until September 15, 2023.

“It is reassuring to hear that this repeat offender is being held in custody for a subsequent court date. This dangerous criminal can no longer endanger the public.. This tragic loss of one our community members is another somber reminder that criminals who have repeatedly shown a disregard for human life and for the courts,  have no place in our communities. The quick arrest of this dangerous individual is another example of our officers’ incredible work and commitment”  – Chief Nishan Duraiappah.

Investigators with the Major Collision Bureau are appealing for any witnesses in the area who may have witnessed the collision or may have dash camera footage of the incident to contact them at (905) 453–2121, ext. 3710.  Anonymous information may also be submitted by calling Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), by visiting https://peelcrimestoppers.ca/.
