GT20 Canada: Brampton Wolves, Montreal Tigers all set for clash of Titans on Wednesday

Cricket fans of Brampton are in for a great feast of cricket as two unbeaten teams of the GT20 Canada Tournament- Brampton Wolves take on Montreal Tigers – in the second game on Wednesday.

Montreal Tigers recorded a convincing six-wicket win over Vancouver Knights for their third win from as many matches to move to the top of the table. They are a point ahead of Brampton Wolves who unfortunately had to drop a point as their last game against Mississauga Panthers was abandoned because of rain.

When the two unbeaten teams take on each other, Brampton Wolves will have an advantage of returning to the field after good two days’ rest. On the other hand, Montreal Tigers played their third game on Tuesday. At one stage they were struggling at 7 runs on board after losing two wickets in the opening over of Fabian Allen. But it was Rutherford who single-handedly carried his team through with a hard-hitting unbeaten knock of 84.

He sent a warning to Brampton Wolves. Also in good nick are other Tiger batters like Dilpreet Singh and Dipindra  Airee who gave much-needed support to Rutherford after the Tigers were three wickets down before the end of the second over.

Brampton Wolves have their star player Harbhajan Singh. With them now. Though he did not play any of the first three matches,  his return to the team will be a great morale booster. Harbhajan must be feeling elated as Montreal Tigers opened their attack with a spinner Fabian Allen, who took two wickets in his first over conceding seven runs, four of which, a boundary, came from a wide. Their other dependable bowler is Colin Brathwaite who took wickets for 20 against the Tigers.

Brampton Wolves have good batters in Aaron Johnson, Mark Chapman. Hussain Talat and Usman Khan too have done well with the bat so far. Besides, their bowling attack will be strengthened by the presence of Harbhajan Singh along with Logan Beek, Chris Green and Jan Frylinck.

Both sides are balanced and have performed well with both bat and ball. Fielding will be another crucial area. So far the teams have done fairly well in the outfield.

A lot will depend upon the toss. Teams winning spin of the coin have been opting to field first as the wicket is still playing well. After some spells of rain during the past few days outfield looks green and fairly fast.

Meteorologists predict some sunshine to the great relief of cricket fans who are getting into the game of numbers in support of their respective teams as stands are expected to be packed for the game of the tournament so far.
