Since its start in 2021, Canada’s Vaccine Injury Support Program has reportedly paid around $2.7 billion to claimants of severe injuries related to vaccines, according to recent statistics.

From June 2021 to Dec 1, 2022, the Vaccine Injury Support Program received about 1,299 complaints, 209 of which were rendered inadmissible due to lack of grounds or incomplete applications.

50 complaints to the injury support program have been approved by Health Canada.

Of the remaining complaints, 221 are said to be fully assessed by the medical review board, while 48 are still pending medical review board assessment. 662 of the claims are in the process of collecting medical records as of now.

To be eligible for claims under the Vaccine Injury Support Program, one must have incurred serious or permanent injury (“a severe, life-threatening or life-altering injury that may require in-person hospitalization, or a prolongation of existing hospitalization”) pertaining to a vaccine administered by Health Canada after December 8, 2020. Apart from the Covid-19 vaccine, other vaccines administered after the aforementioned date are also included in the injury support program.

According to data from the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), one in 10,000 people jabbed with the Covid-19 vaccine showed a serious reaction to the vaccine.

The vaccine Injury Support Program is available to complainants of all provinces except Quebec. Quebec has its own similar program called the Quebec Vaccine Injury Compensation Program.

The amount received by each approved complainant as well as the vaccines they had adverse reactions to remains unclear in the VISP data.
