Indian government has announced to grant around100 e-visas to Afghan Sikhs and Hindus after the deadly attack by ISIS on a Gurdwara in Kabul which killed two people and injured many others.
The attackers had laden a car with explosives but it had detonated before reaching its target.
India has strongly condemned the attack. Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has tweeted, “Shocked by the cowardly terrorist attack against the Karte Parwan Gurudwara in Kabul. I condemn this barbaric attack, and pray for the safety and well-being of the devotees.”
In a similar kind of statement from neighbouring country Pakistan’s government has said that they are “seriously concerned at the recent spate of terrorist attacks on places of worship in Afghanistan.”
According to Gurdwara management committee member Gornam Singh, there were around 30 people inside the building at the time of attack. One Sikh worshipper had been killed in the attack and one Taliban fighter was also killed as his forces were trying to take the control of the area.
Religious minorities like Sikhs, have been continuously target of violence in Afghanistan. In a similar kind of attack in 2020, 25 Sikhs were also killed.
DSGMC delegation under the leadership of president Harmeet Singh Kalka also met Union Minister of State, Jitendra Singh and apprised him about the current situation at Gurdwara Karte Parwan. Kalka said they have urged the Indian government to help the Afghan Sikhs who wish to come to India.
In this latest attack on a place of worship of the Sikh community in Afghanistan, Gurdwara Karte Parwan in Kabul’s Bagh-e Bala neighbourhood on Saturday morning, a gun battle lasted several hours between the terrorists and Taliban fighters.
Afghan security personnel thwarted a bigger tragedy by stopping an explosive-laden vehicle from reaching the Gurdwara.
