Ludhiana family held hostage at knife-point, house looted

Ludhiana: In a daring daylight incident, three armed goons forcible entered a house in Ludhiana city on Monday afternoon. These goons held the entire family hostage and then decamped with Rs 8.5 lakh in cash and jewellery, national daily reported on Tuesday.

The incident was reported form a house in Prem Nagar colony in Islamganj locality. The owner of the house, Lalita Kapoor, has reported the matter to the police. “My husband Kingpal, who runs a lottery and finance business, had gone to his shop in Ghanta Ghar. I was at home along with my daughter and sister-in-law. Around 2.15pm, three masked men entered our house and held us hostage,” Lalita Kapoor was quoted by mediaperson as saying.

The complainant said that the goons who were wielding knives told the family to hand them over cash and jewellery. “Scared, we gave them Rs 8.5 lakh and our jewellery. After collecting the loot, the robbers, who were between 25 and 30 years old, ran away,” the woman was reported as saying.

The Station House Officer (SHO) of Division 2 police station Inspector Gurwinder Singh reportedly said, “CCTV cameras installed in a nearby area have captured the robbers.”

Another police officer said, “It seems the miscreants parked their motorcycle at some distance before striking.”

The police have launched a manhunt to arrest the goons after registering an FIR against them.
