From powerful chants, mele (songs), and hula, storytelling has been a passed down tradition throughout Hawaii’s history and this Maui event has been carrying that custom on for two decades with a modern twist. The Annual Maui Film Festival is Maui’s unique answer to Sundance and showcases award-winning films under the starry Hawaiian sky.
Each year over 1000 films are submitted, curated, and reviewed carefully by the festival team to create the annual collection that appeases almost any movie connoisseur. And residents, as well as visitors alike all, look forward to the five days and nights full of film premieres, tributes, panels, and special tastes. Taste of Summer at the Grand Wailea Resort
As the official launch party of the 20th Annual Maui Film Festival, treat yourself to an oceanside party and enjoy the ono (delicious) bites paired with creative cocktails. Guests attending must be 21 or over and will also have access to the back to back premieres at Celestial Cinema that evening.
Taste of Chocolate at the Four Seasons Resort
Unlike the Taste of Summer where you mingle over cocktails, this tropical party is all about chocolate and delivers some of the most out of the box sweet treats to the lucky attendees! Guests are required to be 21 or over and are encouraged to dress to impress! Attendance to this special event also gains access to the two films showing that night at the Celestial Cinema.
Taste of Wailea at the Wailea Golf Academy
Considered the “Crown Jewel” of all the festival’s parties and receptions, the Taste of Wailea serves mouthwatering dishes of the best of Wailea’s chefs. Those attending are required to be 21 or over and since this event will be hosted at the Wailea Golf Academy, guests can simply stroll down the green fairway to the spacious open seating of the Celestial Cinema to enjoy the two features of that night!
Celestial Cinema
It wouldn’t be a true film festival without the specially picked movies that will premiere each night. In addition to the two features, there will also be tributes to the 2019 Luminaries and Rising Stars that have been selected as this year’s honorees.
And it doesn’t end there! There will be small events, performances, and showings throughout the festival and it is all here nestled under the stars.
