Why it is important to prioritize particular Social Medias over others for your Business?

Social Media websites have become an important part of our daily routine. More than a billion people are on them and spend regular time for making friends, entertainment etc. It is almost impossible to ignore the potential benefits that Social Media offers for various businesses. Although it is comparatively easier to promote your business on social media, it is also not that easy to just make account on any social media and start the promotions.

If you really want to make your business a success on social media, you have to consider a few things even before starting out. Although it is free to promote business on almost all the Social Media Sites, the thing that you invest the most is your ‘Time’. It takes a good amount of time to build a brand, give a good reach on social media to your business.

Not all the social media sites are similar in use, purpose etc. some cater to different needs than others, some social sites focus only on one interest. Even when it comes to the popularity, usage and penetration of the social media sites among people of various age groups, regions etc., there is a difference.

But before thinking and researching on these factors, you will have to be sure about your business, what exactly it is about, what you intend it to be in the next few months or years, who your target audience should be etc. and how big or small your business is so as to determine the target region to promote, whether your business is local or country specific etc.

  1. Social Networks:

The usual and general social media to connect with people and brands etc. The most popular among them being Facebook.

  2. Interest-based networks:

These social networks focus on one particular shared hobby or interest and connect with other like-minded individuals. For example, ‘Goodreads’ is for book readers and authors. ‘Last.fm’ is for all music lovers and musicians etc.

  3. Discussion forums:

Here, people openly share their opinions, news, info, knowledge on various topics. A couple of the popular discussion forums are Reddit and Quora.

  4. Consumer review networks:

Here, people get to find, share info and review the various products and services like restaurants, airlines, technology gadgets etc. For e.g. on Zomato, people get to know about the best and worst restaurants and other eating out options around their locality or elsewhere they want to check.

  5. Media sharing networks:

To make, find and share photos, videos etc. with others. On Instagram, people mainly share their photos, while YouTube is all about video sharing to the world.

It is always good and advantageous to have an account of your business on multiple types of social media, it will be wise to give a priority to some of them over others. If you are an author, you won’t get much benefit from using Instagram as what you will get with Goodreads. If you own a restaurant, it will be better to give more time to your Zomato account than to your twitter account. Because, there you will get more quality engagements and reach which are specific to your business type.

The more time you invest promoting your business on one social media over the other, the better chances and faster your business will grow. Thus, it is wise to think carefully beforehand, out of the few social media sites that you plan to promote your business, which ones to prefer and give more time to in order to get the most out of them.
