Rolling Billboards, Mud Season & a Little Soap

Spring is Such a Tease, Is it Not?

The promise of Spring is a beautiful thing. Flowers. Sun. Warmth. Clean fresh air. Which will happen. Not necessarily right now. Be assured. It will happen. For now, it’s just a mix of incessant rain, gusty winds, mud puddles & mud. Lots of mud.

Even in Florida, we suffer. It’s true. But we’ll save that for another day.

Own It

If you have a fleet of trucks, vans or cars. Or even one, this is a representation of your company. People don’t really care about your struggles. All that anyone sees ifs a filthy, dirty, muddy, grimy vehicle.

And you just can’t have that.

Spring Vehicle Voyeurism

We admit it does pass the time when you’re on the road. Watching trucks, vans, and cars all sporting the wear & tear blues and scourge of the season. Mud splashes, caked dirt, exhaust-laden smudging, grit, grime and deadly blinding dust everywhere is the rule of the day.

Seeing an amusing or cryptic note sculpted into the dust, dirt, and grime, oh yeah, that’s golden. Sure, usually, it’s not much more than “Wash Me!”, but still.  And this spring? Forget about it. Or as a New Yorker, fuhgettaboutit.

But Is It Art?

This is prime time for graffiti artists and for mischievous writers and poets to have their way. Your vehicle is their vehicle for creative expression. Great, huh?

Well, that is, unless that vehicle happens to be YOUR company vehicle. Then, not so great. It is NOT art.

Positively Clean

A clean fleet sends a positive message. Trucks are rolling billboards. You might have the most compelling visuals, logos, and business message on your trucks and vans, but if no one can see it what’s the point?

Suppose you’ve invested in a Rolex then wear long sleeves to cover up that gorgeous thing. Same thing. No one can see or appreciate your glorious statement piece if it’s all covered up.

Let it Shine

The investment you’ve made in your equipment, business & timepiece is absolutely for naught if no can see it. Late winter & spring wreak havoc, so be mindful of your fleet and think about stepping up a serious washing program to keep your rolling billboards clean, shiny and spiffy.

Additionally, when trucks are clean, they’re just treated better by the drivers, naturally.

Also, It’s spring, lose the long sleeves.

Clean Vehicles Save Fuel

Clean vehicles are fuel-efficient. This is not a myth or old wives tale. A clean vehicle produces less ‘drag’. Not as in old sixties lingo, “What a drag”. Drag is actually friction caused by air passing over a vehicle’s surface. No drag translates to fuel efficiency.

Fuel may well be one of your fleet’s biggest expenses, so every bit of efficiency counts. The larger the fleet, the more fuel efficiency matters. So investing in a little soap makes cents and/or sense.

You get the picture.

Clean Fleets are Easily Maintained

If you’ve ever tried to find a leak in a dirt and grime covered area, you know it’s an absolute exercise in futility. However, leaks and wear marks are amazingly visible on clean trucks.

After a very long and very rugged winter, a new spring cleaning regimen is just what the fleet doctor ordered. Who knows what little catastrophes you might find under the grease & grime of a wintry season that refuses to end?

A Stitch in Time Saves Nine

Catching a small problem before it becomes a huge problem can literally save thousands of dollars. Just because. Just because you had the foresight to invest in a little soap and water and a consistent wash. Genius.

Clean trucks are good trucks. Everyone knows that. So, send a positive message to the community, your customers, your mechanics and to your drivers. Bosses too. If you have a boss, having clean trucks is a really, really good thing.
