Pedestrian, Motorcycle, and Truck Crashes Claim Lives in Tampa Area In Second Weekend of July

In the last few days, a number of catastrophic accidents have claimed the lives of Floridians, including a pedestrian, motorcyclist, and motorist:

  • A 53-year-old man was tragically killed July 10th after he was hit by a car on Seminole Boulevard, the Tampa Bay Times reported. The fatal accident occurred at 5:11 a.m. at Seminole Boulevard at Walsingham Road. According to the news report, a vehicle was travelling north near the intersection, when at the same time, the pedestrian was crossing the middle of the intersection. It was unclear if the victim was in the crosswalk when he was struck. The man was taken to a nearby hospital where he later passed away.
  • A 49-year-old Spring Hill man was killed July 11th when he was riding his motorcycle in Hernando County, and a vehicle turned in front of him. The crash occurred at the intersection of County Line Road and Ruskin Avenue. According to the Tampa Bay Times, the motorcyclist was taken to  the hospital where he passed away of his injuries later that day.
  • A fiery crash on Interstate 75 near Wildwood on July 12th took the life of a 31-year-old Spring Hill man, Tampa Bay Times reported. The collision was reported at about 7:25 a.m. near milepost 321. According to the news report, a man from Dade City was driving a tanker truck when he had to slow for stopped traffic. The vehicle behind him, driven by the Spring Hill man, was not able to stop and crashed into the back of the truck. The collision caused about 250 gallons of fuel to spill and the truck to catch fire.

Our thoughts go out to the families of all of these tragic crashes. Unfortunatey, they are just a few of many fatal traffic collisions this year. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, there have been nearly 1,700 fatalities from traffic accidents in 2021, and more than 118,400 injuries. Many of these accidents are caused by negligent and reckless drivers – and entirely preventable.
