St. Jude Thanks Florida Fine Cars for Support with Gift of Art

MIAMI — St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital thanked Florida Fine Cars for sponsoring two recent fundraising walks with a unique gift of child-created art.

The Memphis-based children’s hospital sent the family-owned used car dealership a poster-size copy of an illustrated original poem, created by a patient named Jazmine, in a show of appreciation.

“St. Jude uses the artwork to connect its patients with the community supporting them,” explained St. Jude spokeswoman Melissa Miranda.

The illustrated poem titled “F is for fever” is a child’s account of being sick. It depicts a child taking medicine. It was created by a patient named Jazmine.

Community Support Makes Ongoing Cancer Research a Reality

Financial support from businesses like Florida Fine Cars is what makes the hospital’s ongoing cancer research possible, Miranda said.

”When businesses like FFC sponsor events, it helps cover costs for chemotherapy, platelet transfusions, and much more for patients,” Miranda said. “Additionally, this helps St. Jude provide patients’ families with meals, necessities, and lodging during their stay.”

St. Jude had organized simultaneous fundraising events in Miami and West Palm Beach for September 23, 2017, and Florida Fine Cars supported both events. The used card dealership has stores in West Palm Beach, Hollywood and Miami and is opening a fourth store in Margate.

“Getting involved with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital was an easy decision,” said Florida Fine Cars marketing director Jamie Suid. “The work they do and the young lives they save is incredible. Cancer and kids is a horrible combination. We want to be part of the cure in any small way that we can.

“It’s touching that they shared some of the poignant art work that was created by their young patients,” he added.

Donations large and small are what keep the Memphis-based research hospital operating. According to St. Jude, it costs $2.2 million a day to run the hospital, 75 percent of which comes from donors like Florida Fine Cars.

St. Jude Serves Thousands of Young Cancer Patients Annually

The renowned research hospital sees more than 7,800 children every year, Miranda said. St. Jude accepts children, adolescents, and young adults who are 21 years old or younger at the time of acceptance.

Thousands of children receive cancer treatment every year at St.Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

St. Jude has helped push the overall survival rate for childhood cancer from less than 20 percent in 1962 when it first opened to 80 percent today.

Doctors at St. Jude treat everything from brain tumors, leukemia/lymphoma and infectious diseases to immunodeficiency diseases, blood disorders, sickle cell disease and solid tumors.

St. Jude makes it easy for families to pick up their lives and move to Memphis to receive the best treatment in the world.  Consistent with the vision of founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family’s ability to pay.

“Because of sponsors like FFC, St. Jude has the freedom to focus on what matters most – saving kids regardless of their financial situation. Every dollar makes a difference,” Miranda said.
