5 Logo Design Tips to Create a Logo That Will Stand Out From Your Competitors

Tags: logo brand

A Logo can prove to be one of the greatest assets for a company mainly because it serves as a brand identity for a business. Therefore, it is important that you create a logo that is not only easy to remember but also creates positive association with the services and products of the company.

However, it’s not always easy to design a logo that will stand out or be a perfect fit right away which is why we have rounded up a few tips that will help you design a successful logo.

Tip #1: Know Your Brand

Before you even begin to design a logo, you need to first know and understand your brand. Even if you are working for a client who has asked you to create a logo for their company, you need to get an idea of what it is they do, their products and services, their position in the market along with the goals that they want to achieve. This will give you a base to begin planning out the type of logo that will best represent the brand.

Tip #2: Know Your Audience

The whole purpose of creating a logo in the first place is to create a brand identity for a company and draw the attention of the target audience towards them. In order to achieve that, you need to have an idea of who the target audience is, their age, preference and any other information that you can gather which can give you more insight about them. The more information you have about them, the better you will be able to design a logo that will catch their attention.

Tip #3: Research Competitors

Just knowing about the brand is not enough – you need information about the competitors as well. Researching about them along with observation of their logo design such as the color palette, type of logo and the use of typography will give you a place to start and take inspiration from, which will reflect positively in your logo design.

Tip #4: Simplicity in Design

A misconception around design is that if it’s really complex, then it will be worth something. However, that is not true. At times, some of the best logo designs are ones that are quite simple. The McDonalds logo, Nike, Apple, Google – these are all logos that are simple in terms of design yet are recognized all over the world.

Tip #5: Sketch it

So you have thought of this really great design and are ready to get designing on the software – but wait! It’s not necessary that your first idea will be approved by the client right away or that it might be the best one. Therefore, keep a notebook with you and sketch out your ideas on that. Tweak them a bit, refine and modify them until you feel that the end design is perfect for the company. Then, head on over to the software to draft out the final logo design.
