Commercial Medical Escort Option

Sometimes a patient is stable enough that they may not require an air ambulance, but still may need medical supervision during a transport. This type of patient might be an excellent candidate for the commercial medical escort option.

Patients that are stable enough to sit-up in a commercial airliner may want to consider flying with an AeroCare medical escort. The medical escort option is a more affordable option compared to the private air ambulance option.

AeroCare’s Aero-Medical Case Managers and medical team will determine whether a patient is a suitable candidate for a medical escort when you contact AeroCare. They will do a medical assessment before scheduling a medical escort to assure that the medical escort is safe for the patient and that the patient can fly on a commercial aircraft.

The Process

Once a patient is approved for a medical transport AeroCare will purchase first class or business class airline tickets and will coordinate the entire medical escort. The AeroCare Case Manager will complete the necessary forms with the airlines, arrange for ground transportation and coordinate with the sending and receiving medical facilities.

During The Medical Escort

The commercial medical escort will involve the patient being accompanied by an RN and, or a Flight Medic during the ground portion of the transport and during the commercial flight. The medical escort will provide the patient with assistance in the airport by helping with boarding and un-boarding the aircraft. During the flight the medical escort will monitor the patient, administer medications, provide medical care, and assist the patient with any other needs. Once the patient has arrived at their destination the medical escort will accompany the patient in the ground ambulance to the receiving facility. Upon arrival at the medical facility the medical escort will provide a post-flight report to the receiving medical staff, and transfer care.
