Oracle @ GHCI 2015 – Event Highlights

The Grace Hopper Celebration event, India’s largest gathering of Women in computing and technology took place between December 2nd and December 4th in Bangalore.

Oracle participated as proud Silver Sponsor, a perfect occasion to re-connect with the amazing Indian community of women technologists.

We’ve had the opportunity to network live with Ghci attendees who stopped by the Oracle Booth. Here, participants interacted with our booth representatives and learned more about Oracle’s extensive and continuous efforts to support the successful development and empowerment of women in tech.

Starting with 2006, these initiatives have been reunited under the Oracle Women’s Leadership (OWL) program, a global professional ecosystem of support and collaboration for women operating in a diversity of tech fields. Today OWL means: 70 strong communities, more than 7,000 dedicated employees and 41 engaged countries.

Our booth visitors were also excited to take part in a series of fun and engaging interactive activities, all packed with goodies and prizes: a Pin Board Game, a Quiz Contest and a Selfie Challenge.

The Selfie Contest got our booth attendees ready to smile, inviting them to snap a creative selfie with our speech bubble and then share their answers on why “women make tech better”. The most creative selfies and answers got rewarded with selfie sticks!

Prior to the event, on the 28th of November, Oracle hosted an online Hackathon. More than 100 contestants put their coding skills to the test and competed for our cool prizes. Our coding-contest winners were: Anjan Kaur Makkar – Apple Watch winner, Mehul Raje and Ankita Shukla – both Raspberry PI winners.

Overall, GHCI was an inspiring experience that offered corporations, academia, students and tech professionals to chance to get together, network proactively and help build a supportive environment that empowers the development of women in tech.

Our belief that empowered women can inspire and empower other women to be successful in their career path has been translated in a series of pre-event interviews, published on the blog.

Supporting the global and local communities of amazing women in technology is part of Oracle’s core mission. We’re always looking forward to open new doors of excitement and possibilities for talented women professionals who wish to grow their career in the tech industry.
