Perpetual change: A salesperson’s bread and butter

In the four years that Jessica has worked at Oracle as a regional sales manager, she’s been in charge of nine business intelligence field reps. Jessica’s role encompasses the management of her reps’ customer relationships, forecasting, profitability, coaching and training. Her job’s span requires that she stays on top of a constantly changing environment, one that presents new challenges every single day.

“It’s always evolving, so your role may change just based off the needs of the business,” Jessica explains. “So you’re constantly learning, you’re constantly evolving; it’s not the same every day,” she adds. This environment in constant flux requires a stream of knowledge to be able to make critical decisions on the fly. Fortunately for Jessica, Oracle provides the tools and resources its salespeople need to stay sharp.

“They give us tons of training, lots of resources,” Jessica says. However, she believes there’s more to success in sales than learning constantly. “I think to be successful you also have to use your internal network at Oracle; so I believe it’s a combination of both that you can leverage, but there surely is enough information for you to have the best training possible,” Jessica explains.

In Oracle’s sales force, Jessica has found the opportunity to learn and grow. “There’s so much flexibility to move up in the company as long as you’re performing,” she says. The tech industry is one of constant change, and it requires nimble evolution from those who wish to thrive in it. Add to that the sales profession’s innate requirement to constantly think outside the box, and you’ve got a formidable challenge before you. Luckily for Oracle, they have people like Jessica on their team to take the tech and sales worlds head-on, and deliver amidst perpetual change.
