When Gökhan Bagir, Oracle Digital Sales Representative, and his colleagues took on the enterprise of laying the grounds of the first Oracle Digital Sales team in the multicultural city of Amsterdam, they knew it would be a challenging task. They were looking at a steep learning curve and a need to integrate newcomers into the company’s culture, systems, processes and product understandings. Fortunately, Gökhan had the right attitude and ideas for the task at hand, as well as outstanding sales experience and leadership skills to back up his spirited initiatives.

“If you can help people, you have to do it,” says Gökhan about employees’ need for help adjusting to all things Oracle, including the diversity of its workforce. “We go to lunch together, we drink beer together, we have fun with how we speak English differently,” Gökhan mentions. “We are one international family, and I think that enriches my life and my colleagues’, too,” he adds. However, the most international of sports would be the ultimate enabler for bringing cultures closer together.

“When I came here, Oracle employees were playing football,” Gökhan remembers. “They were playing in a small field, so I set it up so they could play more frequently in a more structured way,” he admits. Thus, their very own football league was born. Today, there are around 50 people registered to participate. This achievement couldn’t have been possible, however, without the guidance from Oracle Amsterdam’s site leader, Dirk Wiersma.

“I want to give big credits to Dirk; he’s like a father to all of us,” Gökhan confides. “He knows all of the site’s 215 employees personally, and recognizes them by first and last name,” he adds. Dirk Wiersma’s leadership is an acknowledged catalyst for innovation and results, which makes the Digital Sales Center in Amsterdam an exciting place to work for any tech professional in search of recognition and encouragement.

“I’m excited that Oracle wants to be the best in the Cloud,” says Gökhan. “I see that we’re getting there by taking these steps; I’m excited that we can be a part of it,” he also mentions. It is through Gökhan’s and his peers’ efforts to make Oracle a great place to work that the company won’t only reach its business goal, but will make the journey an unforgettable experience.
