Tap into the Transformative Power of Quote in 2 Easy Steps

Tags: quote message

It’s early morning and I’m thinking about a Quote that’s been bouncing around in my consciousness for a few days. Here’s the quote: “The question of what you want to own is actually the question of how you want to live your life.” – Marie Kondo

This is a great quote; it speaks to me … but, how do I tease out the magic, make it my own and apply it to my life?

Mildred Lynn’s two steps for bringing quotes to life:

Out of necessity, I’ve worked out an easy two-step process to get from “That quote resonates with me” to “I’m living the quote”. It works because you can use it with any quote, at any time. All it takes is a little practice and before you know it, you’ll be able to capture the transformative energy of a quote’s Message and apply it to your own life … with gusto!

Simply ask yourself two questions: “What catches my attention?” and “How is this quote relevant now?”

To illustrate, I’ll apply my own life experience to Marie Kondo’s quote: “The question of what you want to own is actually the question of how you want to live your life.”

Step 1: What catches my attention?

I firmly believe that when a quote catches my eye or appears repeatedly, it contains a transformational message or “energy” that is worth its weight in gold. In this case, the latter part of the quote, “how you want to live your life”, resonates deeply within me.

I’m also noticing that the beginning portion of the quote referring to “what you want to own” is less intriguing; so I would look at that portion of the quote as a tool or way to help me action “how you want to live your life.”

So, by reflecting on what caught my attention, I sharpened my view of my own life. I looked at what I was choosing to learn and master in the way of skills (I am a life-long learner) and what I was choosing to spend my money and time on … and not spend money and time on.

Step 2: How is this quote relevant now?

Let’s look at a practical application in my life experience:

Three weeks ago, I spent two days sifting through six long-term storage containers in California. Since a quick way to decide what “stays” and what “goes” was needed, I decided to sit quietly for a few minutes and tap into the wisdom of my inner self. Here’s the message that came up for me: “Take only what feels important for the next chapter of your life.” So, based on this inner guidance, the Marie Kondo quote was very relevant … but, there was a catch; the quote was still urging me to dig deeper.

For a while, I was stumped and then it came to me: The storage items that I chose to keep were a mirror reflection of the new life chapter I desired to create … and the clues to what this will look like are tied up in the this “stays” or this “goes” feelings generated by the exercise of sifting through six storage containers. The task of choosing what material goods to keep was helping me define the guideposts of the next stage in my life.

Mystery solved. Message received. Path validated. Plus, I knew that I “got” the message or energy shift available to me through the quote because I had a sense of completion and a big exhale!

Give it a try …

If one or more of the quotes below intrigues you, ask yourself two questions: “What catches my attention?” and “How is this quote relevant now?”

  • “A ship in harbour is safe — but that is not what ships are built for.” — John A. Shedd.
  • “Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.” – Oscar Wilde
  • “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” – Theodore Roosevelt

Always remember that there are helpful hints and signs everywhere on your path; keep an open mind and recognize that if a random quote appeals to you, it most likely has a divinely inspired message to share for your highest good. The trick is to be able to apply an easy, two-step process that lets you to grab the quote and make it your own. Enjoy the journey!
