TopForm was a pioneer in Bankruptcy petition preparation – the first market leader in guided bankruptcy forms and filing. Bankruptcy lawyers around the country relied on TopForm because its guided interviews allowed faster preparation and the confidence of knowing petitions were completed accurately, with updated forms, exemptions, and mean testing data for each jurisdiction.

TopForm was so popular that it was acquired by Matthew Bender, which was acquired by LexisNexis, which was acquired by global publisher Reed Elsevier. As a small part of a much larger organization, TopForm struggled to attract development resources, and as a CD-ROM product that only worked on PCs, TopForm lost the majority of its market share over time, as practitioners moved to newer petition preparation software (even at higher prices for install-only desktop software).

That all changed when Fastcase acquired TopForm from LexisNexis.  The Fastcase team had proven that it could make beautiful, powerful software with its flagship legal research product.

And since acquiring TopForm, the team at Fastcase set a goal, as Lawyerist put it, “to make kick-ass bankruptcy software,” available anywhere, anytime, and on any device.

We first updated the product from a standalone desktop application to a Web-based application available on any browser and any device. Once on the web, we then set to work updating the product to the 21st century. In 2017 alone that work included, a user-friendly and easy-to-use interface to make filings simple and straightforward, a massive update to our auto-efiling system, credit report integration from three partner-vendors and a modern infrastructure to keep all your cases secure and accessible anytime, anywhere.

As we continued to make the product better and better, it has become apparent to our team that what we are offering is genuinely something new – the Fastcase of bankruptcy petition software. Therefore, it deserved a new name and a new home with Fastcase. So as of December 1, 2018 TopForm is now Fastcase BK.

This is more than just a name change. Fastcase BK symbolizes the culmination of years of work to build the world’s most comprehensive and innovative bankruptcy filing software, covering all federal bankruptcy courts and the vast majority of forms. Fastcase BK is once again at the very front of the market, and we are proud to attach our name to this incredible new product.

As part of the transition, you will note that the application will move from its old domain topform.law to its new home bk.fastcase.com. When you visit the new home for Fastcase BK, you will recognize much of the look and feel of the streamlined, intuitive TopForm user interface, but now with the new updated features we’ve released over the last 12 months.

New features include an updated auto-efiling system, three credit report integration platforms (MFI, Microbilt, and CIN), auto-updating of all forms to the newest version, and several back-end updates to increase the speed an accuracy of the application.

But we aren’t done yet! Fastcase is an agile software development shop, which means that we release updates multiple times per year.  Now that Fastcase BK is on the Web instead of downloaded to the desktop, we can update the application and forms in realtime.
