PLOY @ Clearwater Damansara Heights KL – A Japanses Thai Fusion Party.

A few friends and I recently visited PLOY for a celebratory dinner. The restaurant offers an interesting array of Japanese Thai Fusion dishes, alongside a selection of alcoholic beverages. There're two outlets in Klang Valley, one in Publika and the other in Clearwater, the same building that houses The Lychee Martini (RM30.80) was great; the Mojito (RM28.60) was good.My friend claimed that her Tomyamtini (RM27.50) tasted like very rough (cough medicine?) and the Sparkling Playground (RM34.50) concoction felt rather imbalanced, like mixing peanut butter with soy sauce (just saying). So much for our enthusiasm to try out something new.PLOY's Black Fried Rice (RM30.50).Being one of the most popular dish at PLOY, I was seriously expecting more. The dish looked great, though I was silently hoping for more seafood. Despite the use of Thai sweet basil and chili in the dish, I couldn't taste much Thai flavors either. Nevertheless, the squid ink fried rice was flavorful and the condiments were pretty well done. The crispy Smoked Duck Breast And Chicken Ham Pizza (RM30.80) was delicious. I really liked the toppings, ebiko sprinkles and avocado sauce base. Having said that, I felt that the pizza could have stayed a little longer in the oven, giving it a better crisp and a slightly more golden brown finish. More please!Pink Lady (RM34.80).We didn't quite enjoy the Pink Lady however. The sushi roll looked sad - it wasn't plump nor attractively presented. It came tucked with soft shell crab, avocado, cucumber and wrapped with strawberries and cheese. The Cracked Coconut (RM21) have got to be one of the prettiest looking desserts I've had of late. Everything on the plate was edible, including the sand and seashells. We had fun cracking it apart but there was just something about the consistency and texture of the coconut sorbet that I didn't quite like. It needs more milk perhaps.
Overall Rating: 7/10. Despite the interesting though average dinner, our meal were overall pleasant and we had a fantastic time having each other as company. We were also pretty unanimous on our favorites for the night. I'd recommend the PLOY's Black Fried Rice, Smoked Duck Breast and Chicken Pizza and the Cracked Coconut.
