During our last makan trip to Klang, a Klang native recommended us to try Kee Heong Bak Kut Teh in Taman Eng Ann. This is where she would bring her KL friends to enjoy this staple, mainly because of their great consistency in maintaining the food quality.

It was only 5.30pm when we got here, but the restaurant was already full. Luckily we still managed to secure a table.

We specifically requested for the Bak Kut Teh to be served in bowls and had a serving of pork ribs and ‘dai guat' @ RM11 each. On top of that we ordered a serving of dry bak kut teh, the type prepared with dried chilies and cuttlefish. Service was fast and friendly and we got our food in a timely manner.

Kee Heong's dry bak kut teh @ RM14 (1 pax) tastes very similar to what we usually have at Shang Pim, but with the addition of fried shallots to give it boost of aroma. It's also a lot spicier as well.
Sadly, we forgot to tell them that we wanted pork belly so we got mixture of lean meat. Delicious as it was, I am sure it would have been more satisfying with fattier cuts of meat.

As for the soup version, there's no doubt that the bak kut teh soup was wonderfully rich, thick in collagen with deep herbs flavor. That said, please allow me nitpick a bit on the meat which I felt was a tad overcoooked/overboiled to a rather tough and stringy state.

If you happen to be in Klang and have absolutely no idea where to have bak kut teh, safe to say you won't go wrong with Kee Heong.
But for someone like me, who's not a local and have already tried their bak kut teh, there's really no reason to return. After all, there are hundreds of bak kut teh restaurants in Klang equally worthy of attention.
