After a Truck and Train Accident in North Lampung Indonesia, KAI Company Demands CV BW Billions of Rupiah

Kupastuntas.co, Bandar Lampung - Kereta Api Indonesia Company (KAI) will demand compensation from CV. Bumi Waras (BW) owner of a fuso truck loaded with sugarcane which resulted in an accident with the Kuala Stabas train in Blambangan Pagar, North Lampung Regency, Tuesday (18/7/2023). Compensation after the accident also reached billions of rupiah.

Head of Public Relations Section (Kabag Humas) PT. KAI Divre IV Tanjung Karang, Azhar Zaki Assjari said, yesterday the party from CV. BW has come and asked for the problem of the accident in Lampura to be resolved amicably.

But still, because this is a state asset that suffered a loss, his party also asked for compensation from the company.

"We at KAI have provided details of the losses we experienced from yesterday's incident to CV. BW," said Azhar Zaki, when confirmed, Tuesday (1/8/2023).

However, Azhar Zaki was reluctant to mention how much the company that owned the sugar cane truck had to pay in total. However, he ensured that it reached billions of rupiah.

"The locomotive was damaged, not to mention the cost of evacuating the locomotive. Then we also carried out an overstappen (transfer of trips) to other modes of transportation, recovery services for passengers who experienced delays and so on. So the total loss was quite large, up to billions," he said.

Azhar Zaki said, from the compensation that had been given, the company had indeed asked for relief, but that matter had yet to be decided.

Furthermore, if they are unable to pay the losses requested by KAI. Basically they (CV. BW) are ready with KAI's decision in determining the next step in the legal process.

"So they are confused and realize that it was their fault, that KAI has suffered huge losses. However, if they fail to pay, they are willing to accept KAI's decision," he said.

Meanwhile, Itera Transportation Observer, Ir. Muhammad Abi Berkah Nadi conveyed, for the aftermath of definite compensation from PT KAI and PT Bukit Asam, they had calculated the amount of loss caused by the accident.

Because it is clear, if in 1 day there is no mobilization of coal transportation it will be a big loss for PT Bukit Asam as the largest share in the use of the railroad in South Sumatra.

"But the impact of the accident is not only the mobilization of coal transportation, but also passenger and logistics rail transportation which will not operate due to the repair of the rail line," he said.

Therefore, for compensation that reaches billions of rupiah there must also be transparency from PT KAI.

"So that the amount that is compensated can be clear about the losses of each agency that uses the South Sumatra railroad. Because the biggest income from using the railroad is from PT Bukit Asam," he said.

However, companies that cannot afford this compensation must make an agreement between CV BW and PT KAI Divre IV as the manager of the railroad.

"So that there is a bright spot in handling compensation and a win-win solution to the costs that must be paid," said Muhammad Abi. (*)
