Household Waste Production in Bandar Lampung Indonesia is 800 Tons per Day

Kupastuntas.co, Bandar Lampung - The people of Bandar Lampung City produce 800 tons of household waste per day. The waste is transported to the Bakung Final Disposal Site (TPA).

The Head of the Bandar Lampung Environment Agency (DLH), Budiman P Mega, said that 800 tons of household waste is transported to the Bakung TPA every day.

Budiman explained that waste management in Bandar Lampung will involve third parties, namely PT Coca-Cola and Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI), which are currently in the process of preparation.

"For waste management, we will cooperate with PT Coca-Cola and BNI. We have met with them, and now is in the preparation process. God willing, this plan will be realized this year," said Budiman, Thursday (13/7/23).

His party also continues to socialize with the community about sorting waste before it is transported to the Bakung TPA.

"The community's segregated waste can be sold to a waste collection site or a waste bank which will be managed by a third party. So each urban village has a collector who manages the waste bank," he said.

So he continued, the community can get additional income from the sorted waste because it can be sold to collectors.

"Until now in Bandar Lampung there are around 15 waste banks. That does not include those made by the Provincial Government of Lampung. While waiting for cooperation with third parties, these waste banks are now independently recycling waste to make plastic and other goods," he added.

He explained, for waste management in coastal areas will also cooperate with third parties. His party has also discussed with the community around Sukaraja Beach, to organize the area so it doesn't look slum.

"The task of DLH is to organize there, we will plant trees and then make a park there. With a note that the community must be able to take care of it together, don't let it be neglected or even damaged," he said.

Bandar Lampung City Secretary (Sekkot) as well as Acting Head of the Public Works Service, Iwan Gunawan explained, the Bandar Lampung City Government had asphalted roads in the residential area of Sukaraja beach to make it look neat and clean.

"Well, later we just have to repair the existing talud, and also paint the walls and clean the existing rafters. This is nothing but to make it more tidy and beautiful," said Iwan.

Executive Director of the Lampung Forum for the Environment (Walhi), Irfan Tri Musri said, so far the problem of piles of garbage on the coast has never been taken seriously.

According to Irfan, the Pandawara Group's pioneering action to clean up piles of trash on Sukaraja Beach should become a momentum for the local government to make improvements to waste management in coastal areas.

"Actually, the problem of piles of garbage on Sukaraja Beach is a classic problem. In 2014, Walhi has encouraged the Bandar Lampung City Government to make specific policies such as forming a response team and having infrastructure and facilities to clean up piles of trash on local beaches," he explained.

Irfan revealed that the problem of garbage on the beach in Bandar Lampung is not an ordinary problem, it is not enough to just finish 1-2 activities immediately.

"Because of the characteristics of the Lampung Bay area, garbage piles will continue to occur every day. If there is no specific policy to deal with it, the piles of garbage will continue to exist," he stressed. (*)
