How to Increase Traffic to Your New Blog

You've been working hard and you're ready to launch, but probably wondering how to increase traffic to your new blog.

A popular blog and a successful road trip are both about process and preparation. Just as you shouldn't drive down the road without a knowledge of traffic laws or without car insurance, a proactive approach to blog development has its merits.

1. Think outside the box

It's true that many people who think about the complexities of the electronic world are absolutely amazed by the magic that happens when you push a button on a keyboard. If one were to ask an electronics engineer or computer programmer about the magic though, they might be a little less mystified by the circuitry and logic loops.

They understand that the inner workings of our cyber world are reduced to 1's and zeros. For the person with a new blog who wants to increase traffic it's okay to proceed without knowing those complexities, but an awareness of the limitations of the Internet and Search Engines in particular can be critical to bringing traffic to your blog content.

Search engines look for patterns. The more clear the patterns are, the more likely a search engine like Google or Yahoo can identify your blog topics.

Titles such as the following work great:

1. How to make money...

2. Surprising new discovery on...

3. A breakthrough formula to ...

Titles serve as teasers to human readers, summaries for search engines and traffic to your blog posts.

2. Be personable

Readers like to know who they're reading from. Even if your new blog deals with unpleasant subjects, a suitably human element to your writing allows visitors to connect in ways they cannot if your words are sterile. It may help to write like you're speaking to a friend. Tell a story, add your personality and write from the heart for the audience you expect will read and benefit from your blog.

It's also important to organize your site. It helps to provide clear categories, a search feature or a topic cloud. The content management system (CMS) you use to create your blog most likely has a plug-in for these features.

Use graphics that support your written message. Consider the way colors and images work with the subject matter. Resize your images to suitable dimensions for a web page's load time. Don't detract with useless clip-arts or cheesy animations that do nothing to enhance or illustrate your blog entry. Websites like PicMonkey allows you the flexibility to create awesome photos to include with your articles.

3. Add new content regularly

There are probably numerous blogs that readers can visit which address similar topics to those featured on your new blog. However, one way to keep them coming to yours is to add something with regularity. It's probably accurate to say that adding something daily is more likely to draw people back over a site that is updated on a weekly or monthly basis; but if this becomes too much, then you might think of posting at least 2 to 3 times a week to start off.

If your blog is something that you're passionate or knowledgeable about, then writing a paragraph or more shouldn't be too difficult to do.

There's another bonus to frequent updates: your writing will probably improve based on the simple fact that you're practicing.

4. Know what you're talking about

Some readers may be easily tricked, but others will be very discerning. The shrewd group is the one you really want to appeal to because if they consider you credible, your reputation as a reliable source will grow.

The online community that has an interest in your topics will come to view you as an expert. This all helps tremendously with generating web traffic to your blog because they'll spread the word by linking to your content in one way or another.

5. Reach out

  • Register your web site with search engines. It only takes a moment and lets you get a jump on drawing attention to your site at Google, Bing, Yahoo (and all the rest). Visit each search engine and follow their instructions for submitting a URL.
  • Use social media like Facebook, Google+, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, StumbleUpon and Digg to keep people in the loop. If you did something noteworthy and relevant, create a blog entry on your site and share it with everyone in your circle! Add a social share button (plug-in) and let others share your content.
  • Register your blog site with affiliates and trade organizations.
  • Get a sensible domain name. Register Your Domains Hassle-Free with Namecheap. Domains can be had for under $10.00(US) a year. It helps with search engines and is a better peg for the human memory as well.

Give your blog a traffic boost by focusing on the above. :)
