Free icecream and a chance to win a trip to Japan? Of course this sounded right up our ally! JNTO’s Yummy Fun Truck is spreading a taste of Japan with Japanese inspired ice cream flavours made by Gelato Mesina. Starting at Southern Cross station we decided to head down and try ourselves some ice cream.

I choose the ‘Samurai cheesecake’ (Umeboshi gelato, plum puree and baked Japanese cheesecake) and Lee got the yummi umami (Caramel miso gelato with chewy caramel) Both were super delishios although I think we both liked the yummi umami more.

After eating our ice cream we thought we might as well participate in the ‘game show’ to try and win tickets to Japan (Melbourne to Tokyo with Qantas) As there was 2 of us we played the 2 player taste test game. This required one of us to stand behind the other wearing a blind fold while the person behind tried to feed the person in front ice cream.

Lee shot up his hand straight away to guess the flavour but the other couple beat us to it and had the chance to guess the right flavour first. Lucky for us they guessed wrong so Lee then had a chance to guess right.

Lucky for Lee he got to try and guess the flavour that he had just tried so he knew straight away what is was. After guessing the correct flavour we got to press the prize machine button, Lee told me to press it as I am the one with good luck, so I did and out popped a glow stick… damn not the tickets but oh well. So just as we were about to head up to the station and head home, they said wait there is two of you, you get another go! So this time Lee pressed the button….

We won! We were both stunned at first as they asked us how we were felling Lee’s first response was “How am I going to tell my boss we are going to Japan again?!” As we had just returned from our 3 months trip and were not planning to go back for a while, this was a great surprise and of course how could we say no to a free trip.

After winning they took lots of photos and we did a short awkward interview haha we were in shock! Not only does this included flight with Qantas direct from Melbourne to Tokyo but includes 4 nights accommodation and train pass. Luckily we have about 1 year to take our trip and after recently returning from our last trip we can take some time til the next one. So amazing!
