Some self-defense weapons are deadly, while others act as deterrents. Do you want a non-lethal self-defense Weapon, or are you alright with lethal options?

Is it Easy to Carry Around?

If you take your purse everywhere, you can pick a weapon that's bulkier. But you can also buy a weapon that fits in your clutch or pocket. For everyday situations, find something that you can put on your keychain.

Is it Intimidating?

In a perfect world, your RBF would scare off any attackers. But if that doesn't work, it's nice to have a weapon intimidating enough to makes predators think twice.

Is it Easy to Use?

Your self-defense product won't be much good if it's not easy to use. It's not uncommon for people to freeze up when faced with an attacker. You want a weapon that is intuitive so using it is second nature.

1. Pistols

Not everyone is comfortable carrying around a firearm. But there's no denying that a loaded pistol can intimidate anyone.

There are plenty of self-defense pistols on the market, like classic .38 specials. They're easy to use and can fit in your purse.

But if you choose to carry around a firearm, you need to do your research. Know how to use it, and practice often.

Buy your pistol from a reputable dealer that runs background checks. Get your carry-conceal license. You also need to get familiar with state laws about gun control.

2. Pepper Spray

Pepper spray is one of the most popular self-defense products. It's compact, easy to deploy, and super effective. It burns the eyes and skin, plus it makes it hurts if you breathe it in.

If you choose to use pepper spray, you need to get familiar with it. You don't need to spray it in your face (unless you want to). But if you use it incorrectly, it could end up hurting you as much as your attacker.

You also aren't allowed to bring them on airplanes. If you're looking for a self-defense product for your vacation, find something else.

3. Lipstick Stun Guns

In terms of intimidation, a little tube of lipstick isn't going to do the job. But a tube of lipstick that'll shock you with 3 million volts? That'll put a man down. You can also buy ones with 100-lumen flashlights to blind your attacker.

The biggest downside to this stun gun is that you have to be up close and personal with your attacker. But it's a handy piece of equipment in a pinch.

4. Personal Alarm Systems

Many attackers are looking for an easy target, so any deterrent will make them think twice. That's the idea behind personal alarm systems. Most of them fit on your keychain and emit an ear-shattering alarm for at least 30 minutes.

The only problem with this kind of self-defense is that it relies on other people's reactions. You're either hoping the attacker will move on, or that someone will come to your rescue. We recommend using this alarm along with another weapon.

5. Hidden Knife Combs

Do you remember those old movies where someone has a sword hidden in their walking cane? A Hidden Knife Comb is like that, only less conspicuous. These combs pass as real hair combs, but they conceal an 8-inch dagger.

As cool as it is to have a James Bond gadget for girls, you'll have to get close to your attacker to use it.

6. Door Stoppers

If you do a lot of traveling, or you live alone, then look into getting your own door jammer. They're easy to install, and you can stop any door from opening. Anyone that tries to open an inward swinging door will apply more force on the door stopper. This makes it more effective.

This isn't a weapon, but it can give you the peace of mind you need to get a good night's rest.

7. Tactical Knife

Think of the tactical knife like the Swiss Army Knife that Rambo uses. They often have clips on them, so you can store them in your purse pocket or on your pants.

You'll want to practice with your knife so you can open it quickly in an emergency. It also works as a seat belt cutter, a glass breaker, and as a general tool.

8. Go Guarded Self Defense Rings

If someone wearing a ring has ever hit you, you already know it hurts. The Go Guarded ring takes it a step further. This ring has a concealed knife that ejects when you make a fist.

It works better than concealing your keys between your knuckles, but it won't do much damage. Instead, use it as a surprise tactic. Hit your attacker in a spot that hurts, then take off to find help.

9. "Bulldog" Self Defense Keychain

You might have seen this adorable weapon before. It's a keychain knife in the shape of a dog's face that looks like another girly accessory.

But this keychain packs a punch. You slip your fingers through the dog's eyes and the sharp "ears" protrude from your fist.

Again, use this keychain as a surprise tactic. The key to these close-range weapons is to injure your attacker enough that they can't chase after you.

10. Retractable Batons

Retractable Batons are compact and easy to use. You can take them in most places, including trains or subways. You can also do some damage to them. Handled well, you could knock out your attacker.

But retractable batons are easy for your attacker to snatch away, and then you're in trouble. If you use one, smack him hard and fast, then drop it and run.

11. Self Defense Flashlights

This non-lethal weapon can work if you're caught in a dark space. Its strobe beam is strong enough to blind your attacker. At the very least it'll disorient him long enough for you to get away.

Plus a bright flashing light is bound to get someone's attention and alert them to something going on.

12. Slap Hat

The Slap Hat looks like a normal stylish baseball cap. But they made the dome of the cap with a material with the same density as lead. Smack an assailant with this cap, and it'll hurt as a baseball bat.

It works well as a blunt weapon, but you need to hold onto it by the bill of the cap. It might be hard for you to get a grip on this, and it can get knocked out of your hand.

13. Tasers and Stun Guns

A normal taser will fit in your hand and act as an excellent deterrent. You'll need to get up close to your attacker but trust us, a taser will make him think twice about getting close to you.

The only problem is that tasers are not legal to use everywhere. Check your state laws to find out if you can use your taser or stun gun.

14. Tactical Pens

This weapon works as both a pen and a sharp object. It's a working pen, and can also come with a soft end cap so you can use it as a smart-device stylus. Remove that end cap, and it's a sharp tapered edge that's as effective as a knife.

15. Panic Apps on Your Smart Phone

Technology has gone a long way toward making women feel safer. Not only is help a phone call away, but there are also apps that will call the police for you.

These apps can track your location while you're on your way home from drinks with friends. If you don't make it home in time, it will send an alert to the police and your loved ones. While it's not a foolproof system, it can provide vital information if the worst happens.
